Core 2 Duo versus AM2

The processor market has changed with the introduction of the Core 2 from Intel.  AMD's new AM2 chips don't add anywhere near as much to their systems, apart from DDR2.  With DDR2s looser timings, you don't really gain as much as you would think.  Extremetech takes a hard look at both the performance and the cost of the high and low end of these new chips, and the battle will rage on ... at least until AMD starts up their 4x4 .

Tweaktown took 2 of Intel's top processors, the Core 2 Extreme X6800 and E6700 turned the voltage up to 1.475V and pushed them as far as they could go.  The results are impressive, it has been a long while since CPU's could be pushed this far.

AMD has held the speed title for a while now, but with the introduction of Core2, the speed battles are much different.  LOSTCIRCUITS grabs a handful of the less expensive chips from Intel and AMD to see who can claim the fastest speed, and the most bang for the buck.

Quad core is coming, and [H] has the slides to prove it.  There is much that is new in these chips, apart from the 4x4 we know about.  Built on 65nm SOI technology, an L3 cache shared between all 4 cores and a clock for each core.  There is a lot more information, so head on over.

The Guru of 3D takes a long hard look at three Core 2 Duo processors, the E6600, E6700 and X6800.  Benchmarking is only part of the review, they also look at how Intel managed to make such a huge jump from the Pentium 4 architecture they have been using.
