Intel Corporation today unveiled five new products in the Dual-Core
IntelÂ® ItaniumÂ® 2 Processor 9000 series. Previously codenamed
'Montecito,' the new processors are designed for the most sophisticated
high-end computing platforms in the world. They double the performance
and lower energy requirements, improving performance per watt by 2.5
times compared to existing, single-core versions.

The stats on the upcoming Woodcrest server chip from Intel certainly make it seem to be an impressive leap from Xeon. A 4MB L2 cache shared between it's two cores, a 1333MHz Dual-Independent Bus and signifigantly reduced power consumption are just a few of the improvements AnandTech discusses.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 27, 2006 — Marvell Technology Group, Ltd. and Intel Corporation today announced that they have signed an agreement for Intel to sell its communications and application processor business to Marvell for a purchase price of $600 million plus the assumption by Marvell of certain liabilities. The planned sale will give Marvell a strong presence in the growing market segment for processors used in smart handheld devices.

[H]ard|OCP found some X2s clocked a little lower than the ones they have been benchmarking recently, in the hopes of getting some overclocking done. After reaching 2.7 GHz, an increase of 1/2 a GHz, at a 340 MHz processor bus, and the RAM humming along at 1088MHz, they concluded that yes, there is some potential there.
