AMD-ATI Merger Looks Likely ... ????

This news hit me like a ton of bricks -- is this even remotely possible?  According to this article at Forbes.com, AMD (yes the processor designer) might be looking into buying ATI (yes the graphics company).  According to the article it would be a move that would "benefit the overall graphics industry," though I don't immediately see how.

Check out the A64 FX-62 and the X2 5000+ at PC Stats.  They are impressed by the performance, calling the FX-62 the fastest processor they ever tested.

The Inquirer reveals the pricing structure of AMD's new socket AM2 low power consumption CPUs.  Athlon64 and X2 Dual Cores, as well as the mobile Semprons are all listed.

"The chips will be available in May and AMD gave the prices it's charging. The 64 X2 DC chips will

cost $671 for the 4800+; $601 for the 4600+, $514 for the 4400+, $417 for the 4200+; $353 for the

4000+; and $323 for the 3800+."
