AVADirect First USA Company to Offer Core i7 Notebook

Twinsburg, OH (MMD Newswire) May 27, 2009 -- AVADirect, a leading customer computer integrator, has begun offering a Core i7 notebook for sale on its website. AVADirect will be the first official consumer and business retail outlet for this new notebook. AVADirect has already begun taking pre-orders as of last week and plans to ship out the notebooks to expecting customers first week in July.

This new notebook being offered is a big step toward a truly workstation replacement.

Another step forward

The first notebook to use the NVIDIA ION chipset is being revealed today and even though we haven't been able to get hands-on with it yet, the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 could be a winner in terms of performance, size and price for the mobile crowds. A new Atom is coming

Intel revealed details of the Atom successor known as Pine Trail today and the platform looks to be even more impressive with an integrated memory controller and graphics. We also have some news about Intel's Moblin netbook-style operating system that sees a major refresh today.

AMD to showcase Tigris notebook platform next month

During Computex next month, AMD is apparently going to be showcasing the new Tigris mobile platform that features a host of new chips.  The heart of the platform is the CPU codenamed Caspian, of which little is known.  We know it will be built on a 45nm process and will likely still be a dual-core part but other than that, we are currently in the dark.  The chipset it uses is the RS880M that is likely a 55nm chip that supports integrated graphics with DX10.1 technology.

In a world of mobile tech that is trending towards lighter and lighter devices, the ASUS W90 18.4" Notebook
almost seems to not fit in.  There is a subset of mobile users who are quite willing to tote around 12lbs or more of laptop if it is powerful enough.  The W90 certainly has that power, an HD4870 X2 powers the graphics and a C2Q 9000 along with 6GB of DDR2-667 power the rest of the notebook.  Techgage took it gaming, and it had no problems with current generation

iUnika, a very green laptop maker in Spain has been showing off some interesting little netbooks.  Made with a starch and cellulose casing, the casing is biodegradable, but one might rightly assume that the CPU, motherboards and other components are not.  Some models sport a solar panel, allowing the laptop to recharge while shut down, a feat made possible by the fact that these netbooks will be in the 3W to 4W power range.  Check them out at The Inquirer.
