We are going to need a new way to rate low end graphics cards. There are so many really good choices out there that best price for performance is rather difficult to decide. Do you go for the high end HD4830 at about $150, or a low end HD4850 for a few dollars more, or do you want a heavily overclocked 9800GT, again about $150? Do you get cheaper but buy two, or get the fastest single card you can? Are you willing to pay $17.50 for an extra hundred GFLOPS, or only $7.38?
One more mid-range contender
Turns out the answer is yes. The new AMD Radeon HD 4830 512MB graphics card competes with NVIDIA's GeForce 9800 GT and is actually a better overall choice in my opinion. Budget and mid-range cards are getting a BIG boost in validity this fall and it doesn't seem to be slowing down yet.

The early beta of nVIDIA's 180 series of drivers, which bear the name Big Bang II have arrived just in time for FarCry2. The major improvements come in the form of changes to multi-monitor support, a topic dear to Ryan's heart. There are also claims of significant performance increases, and as Ryan is Steaming through the download of FarCry2, you should keep your eyes open for a sneak peek at performance. You can also bet the game will make it into the benchmarking section of future graphics cards.
NVIDIA gave media a preview of all the features coming in the new 180.xx driver set known internally as 'Big Bang II' and we have all the information for you here today. Even better, you can get a very early beta of these drivers if you are picking up Far Cry 2 as well!

Want to see one of the many reasons PC nerds and Mac nerds don't get along? Check out this story that discusses the supposedly "newly added" H.264 decode acceleration on the MacOS X platform that is "mysterious". The author questions whether support for the technology will be added to previous Mac computers rather than be a secret feature on current MacBooks.

We have been seeing these rumors for some time, and now information is supposedly posted on Fudzilla that only six of NVIDIA's current partners are going to survive "the culling". The apparent reason for the removal of some partners is to keep competition from over flooding the market.

While we aren't sure of the validity of these specs yet, they sure do look interesting and put into question the idea that NVIDIA would be leaving the chipset business.
