Our storage guru took a stroll through a state of the art flash memory plant in Lehi, Utah. This plant, dubbed 'IM Flash Technologies', is jointly run by both Intel and Micron. Together they have announced the smallest production transistor process on the planet, and are now in volume production of this new 25nm flash memory.
Allyn came back from CES with a pre-release Vertex 2 Pro from OCZ. This new drive comes equipped with a previously unknown Sandforce controller, which gave us some shocking results, especially in the areas of IOPS scaling and fragmentation-over-time. The very first taste of the future of storage
We have the world's first SATA 6G (6.0 Gb/s) SSD in house in prototype form for benchmarking! Though our testing options were somewhat limited due to the prototype being a read-only piece of hardware, it has proven to us that SSDs are going to be separating themselves from standard hard drives even further in 2010.

Today Intel released a new firmware for their X25-M G2 line of SSD's. The firmware adds long awaited support for native TRIM, which should boost performance when used under Windows 7. The Thecus N5200B NAS is a high-end network storage device that offers support for RAID 5 and 6, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, eSATA and USB ports and five hot swappable hard drive trays.
