External Evaluation

If there is one thing you can say about Alienware's system designs, it is that they are consistent.  The chassis design hasn't changed much from our first look at the systems in May of 2004.

The very familiar Alienware design is still cool and the addition of some LED lights along the front panel add a bit to the design with appropriate lighting.  You can see in this picture the shine that the all plastic case - you can see me a very skinny photographer along the edge of the front door.

The case is quite long from front to back.

Looking at a back angled show we can see that both sides of the case have easily removable doors though putting them back on can sometimes bet a pain due to the large decorative plastic pieces on them.

The rear of the case looks like most other enthusiast chassis and has the power supply at the top of the case, a single fan exhaust port and all the connections and I/O you could need.  You a see on this motherboard that Alienware has dual Gigabit networking, six USB 2.0 ports, Firewire, eSATA, digital and analog audio output and a pair of PS2 connections.

For such a tall case the system has only a set of three 5.25" optical drive bays - that should be enough for most users.  The front panel also has easily accessible USB, Firewire and audio jacks.

The front door is on a hinge that cannot be moved to the other side of the case easily, if it all.  The door also has a lighted Alienware head logo on the front it for added effect.
