Introduction, Specifications and Packaging

Today we take a look at the newly released Intel 510 Series SSD. This is Intel’s first SATA 6Gb/sec offering. They chose to go with a non-Intel branded controller, which took us by surprise to say the least. Can Intel’s SSD gurus transform a previously competing controller into something that can compete with their previous 10-channel monsters?

Today we take a look at Intel’s first offering in the SATA 6Gb/sec realm: The 510 Series SSD. We’ve been waiting for this for quite some time, and it certainly comes with a bit of a surprise in that box (more on that after the break):

Specifications:
  • Sequential read: up to 500 MB/s
  • Sequential write: up to 315 MB/s
  • Random 4KB reads: up to 20,000 IOPS
  • Random 4KB writes: up to 8,000 IOPS
