System Setup and Benchmarks

AMD provided us with a motherboard from MSI for our testing; the MS-6702E based on the VIA K8T800 Pro chipset.  We also have benchmarks from an Asus board based on the VIA chipset as well as an NVIDIA reference board in the following article later today.

It is important to note that with the release of the 939-pin processors, both motherboard manufacturers and consumers are going to be reorganizing their system.  You'll need a brand new board to take advantage of the new processors, regardless of whether you already own an Athlon 64 or Athlon 64 FX processor-based system.  This platform looks to be much more stable looking down the AMD roadmap, however, so those that have been holding off can finally take a look at the AMD64 line of processors with a bit of confidence behind them.
