If you do a search on Thoroughbred in the AMD Forums, you’ll find over 650 posts and 350 threads that mention it. Not since the release of the first Athlon XP core, the Palomino, has this much buzz been circulating in the AMD community. No other question is more often posed to me in emails or on phone calls than “when is the Thoroughbred coming out?” And no answer to any question a would-be Intel user could ask in our forums was more popular than, “when Thoroughbred comes out.”

That’s a lot of hype to live up to, and AMD is well aware of the problems that are facing them with this kind of market and consumer viewpoints. Now that Intel is catching up to and exceeding the best that AMD has to offer, every move that AMD makes is going to be placed under the microscope and analyzed by thousands upon thousands of editors, analysts, and even consumers.

Does the Thoroughbred core processor live up to this kind of excitement and scrutiny? I think you’ll find our analysis of the path of AMD to be right on track…
