Even at the beginning of the launch of the first Athlon MP processors back in June, there was a concern over why AMD has only released versions of the processor at 1.0 and 1.2 GHz speeds. At that time, the Athlon Thunderbird 1.4 GHz was going strong and the absence of a 1.4 GHz or above dual-certified chip was odd. Today, however, the Athlon MP processor line gets a much need jump in speed, now matching that of the latest Athlon XP 1800+ processor released just a week ago.

Those of you who want to jump into the dual processing Athlon world will finally be able to do so with the knowledge that your processors are the top speed that the Athlon family has to offer. And for anyone who already has a Tyan Thunder or Tiger MP board and a pair of Athlon MP processors, you may just want to pop a couple of these new Athlon MP 1800+ CPUs in your system to boost performance.
