The Sandra benchmarks remain a fast and easy way to determine how well the system's CPU and memory are functioning. The Z97 XPower motherboard performed very well in both tests, earning top spots in comparison with the other test systems. Performance on par with that of other same class systems indicates CPU and memory subsystem performance within expected operational parameters.

LinX

LinX is a graphical interface for CPU-based testing using the Intel Linpack benchmarks. It serves as a good indicator of proper system CPU functioning and is considered one of the most intensive CPU benchmarks currently available. LinX was run with Memory set to All and for a total of 3 runs. This test was repeated three times with the highest repeatable GFlops (Giga-Floating Point Operations Per Second) score recorded.

This CPU torture test is a proven method for identifying possible issues with the CPU to motherboard interface layer. Again, the MSI Z97 XPower board performs well within expectations, beating out all but one of the competing systems performance-wise.

Multimedia and System Benchmark Testing

Maxon Cinebench 11.5

Maxon’s Cinebench 11.5 benchmark can be used determine a system's ability to render 3D content based on their Cinema 4D animation software. The CPU benchmark test was run three times, with the highest reproducible Cinebench points score recorded.

I just bought this mobo (along with a 4790K Devils Canyon CPU) to replace my aging but still viable ASUS Maximus Formula LGA775 mobo/QX9650 3.0GHz Yorkfield setup. I'm expecting the delivery once I get home from work. Can't wait.

"The Egg Place" has this mobo for less $ than either price listed in this article.

Normally, I look to an ASUS product first, but this Z97 XPower board looks to keep me happy for the next 5 years +

I really enjoyed the Bios features review and the hardware pictures. A very good looking piece of gear. Please, let us know what results you see with further O.C. testing.

I also agree that the use of barbs instead of ports for the targeted customer was unusual. The addition of another NIC would be expected for that price point.

Thanks Morry!

can the barbs unscrew and come out and replace with ports?

no, the barbs are fixed in place unfortunately...
