Iwill has joined in the trend of including as many overclocking options as possible in the bios of the motherboard. This trend couldn’t make me as a motherboard reviewer and PC enthusiast in general any happier! I was tired of hurting my fingers with those damn jumpers! There is a catch: a single jumper, to decide between trying 100 – 132 MHz and trying the 133 – 166 MHz steppings. This can be a one-time hassle if you forget about the jumper before lowering your multiplier and it doesn’t POST, forcing you to clear the CMOS.

This is the second motherboard I have seen with this wide of a range of FSB settings. It’s simply staggering. Okay, I’ll go ahead and tell you how high I got the bus on it :: 159 MHz! That’s a 318 MHz DDR bus. I had to lower the multiplier on the 1.2 GHz Athlon to get it to post that high, but that was our limit: 159 X 8.5x = 1351 MHz. This is simply out this world as far as FSB goes, and was by far the best in the lab. Previously, we had only reached 150 MHz bus on the Epox 8KTA3 motherboard.

A good thing to keep in mind if you plan on pushing your own FSB this high, is to make sure you have very, VERY fast SDRAM, that supports overclocking. You should take a look at Mushkin’s SDRAM and Overclockerz Store PC170 SDRAM for your best chances for success.

Just another side note, I started using a new fan for overclocking tests this time around. The Tai Sol CGK742092 which you can get find Monarch Computer for a very reasonable price. I was very impressed with this heatsink/fan.
