S/PDIF-out on Back I/O Port

The motherboard and its packaging comply with the European Union´s Restriction on the use of Hazardous Substances (RoHS). This is in line with the ASUS vision of creating environment-friendly and recyclable products and packaging to safeguard consumers´ health while minimizing the impact on the environment.
The retail packaging for the P7P55D Deluxe uses ASUS's standard marketing theme that they use for all of their motherboard offerings. ASUS does feature their 16+3 phase power design as well as their new TurboV EVO overclocking software.
The back panel of the retail box includes information on ASUS's new TurboV remote and the board's auto tuning overclocking features. They also list all the key features and specifications to give consumers a good overview of what they can expect from the P7P55D Deluxe.
To round out the retail packaging, ASUS included more information on a flip-out page on the board's power-saving, overclocking, and data backup programs that are bundled with the P7P55D Deluxe.
Here's our first look at the P7P55D Deluxe and the board layout looks pretty consistent with several other P55 boards we've come across recently. The biggest thing that stands out is the huge chipset heatsink that includes a partially transparent cover and slick graphics that matches the board's color theme. The board's multi-colored, two-tone heatsinks around the processor are also very unique too. The PCB uses ASUS's "Stack Cool 3+" which is a fanless cooling solution to transfer heat from hardware to the other side of the PCB to make temperatures up to 20c cooler.
The back panel of the PCB includes an aluminum backplate behind the CPU and two thin backplates behind the power components on the P7P55D Deluxe.
The back I/O panel includes a plethora of features including dual Gigabit LAN ports, eight USB 2.0 ports, legacy PS/2 ports, firewire, 10-channel high definition audio, optical S/PDIF out, coaxial S/PDIF out, and a clear CMOS button. The high definition audio options available with the P7P55D Deluxe is lends this board to multimedia-focused users as well as high-end gamers looking for a motherboard with exceptional audio features.
The P7P55D Deluxe includes two PCI-E slots running at x8, and a third PCI-E slot that runs at x4 speeds. I should note that when users only use one PCI-E slot that they will get x16 speeds. ASUS also added two PCI-E x1 slots that use 2.5GT/s of bandwidth, which is the new standard with this particular architecture. The three PCI-E slots (x8, x8, an x4) also support multi-GPU solutions including AMD ATI's CrossfireX and NVIDIA's SLI technologies.
Here'sa quick shot at the front panel audio headers including one SPDIF out header. ASUS also included an additional firewire header so users can add one more firewire device.
ASUS threw in two push buttons for power and reset, which are very handy for quick troubleshooting without having to plug in the front panel devices.
There are three USB 2.0 ports on board that support six additional devices. These additional USB devices are supported and managed by Intel's P55 chipset.
There are several features to discuss in the photo above including three SATA 3GB/s ports that managed by the JMicron JMB322 and JMB363 SATA controllers. Our readers can also see the front panel headers and one three-pin fan connector.
ASUS included six more SATA 3GB/s ports that are managed through the Intel P55 chipset. These ports have RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 capabilities through Intel's Matrix Storage Technology embedded into the P55 chipset.
The MemOK! button is onboard to provide users a memory rescue tool that checks memory compatibility patches issues. There is also the TurboV chip that can be seen in the top right-hand corner under the serial port header.
One unique feature on the P7P55D Deluxe is the CPU, IMC, and memory overvoltage switches that allow users access to higher voltages to help them overclock their systems. The default OV_CPU voltages range between .85v and 1.7v, but when you enable this button, users will be able to overvolt the CPU from 1.25v to 2.1v, which is more than adequate for overclocking any LGA 1156 processor.
This header connects the TurboV remote control to the motherboard. It's too bad they couldn't make it wireless so it could communicate with the remote control through infrared or another wireless solution.
The eight-pin power connector is located on the very top of the motherboard by one of the two heatsinks that surround the processor. This location is much better than other boards we've seen that put this connector between the CPU and back I/O connectors.
The P7P55D Deluxe maxes out at 16GBs of DDR3 2133 (O.C.), 1600, 1333, and 1066MHz of non-ECC, unbuffered memory.Users will also notice that the DIMMs only have one side that secures the memory into place. This design improvement will allow more room around the graphics card, which can sometime get in the way when you want to swap memory modules.
The arrangement of power components around the CPU socket is very organized and the surrounding heatsinks create a nice nook for users to install third-party heatsinks and water cooling solutions. ASUS moved the CPU fan connector by the PCI-E slot, which consolidates the fan headers into one convenient location.
ASUS includes six SATA cables with the P7P55D Deluxe.
They also included a black I/O backplate, PATA cable, SLI bridge, and a PCI bracket with two USB 2.0 ports and one eSATA port.
One of the most unique items included in this bundle is the TurboV remote, which is a real-time overclocking control that works directly with ASUS's TurboV overclocking utility. The remote allows users to turn the computer on and off, adjust EPU modes and system bus speed, and launch Turbo Key profiles for system overclocking without interrupting on-going work or games. To round out the bundled accessories, ASUS threw in two quick connectors for the front panel headers and one USB 2.0 header.
