Intro & Specs

Want an AMD Socket 939 motherboard but can’t afford the CPU? The ASRock K8 Upgrade 760GX might be what you’re looking for by supporting both Socket 754 and Socket 939.

ASRock has been manufacturing motherboards for a very long time but goes relatively unnoticed in the community because they’re not a company you’d go to for an enthusiast product. ASRock is better known for their budget-minded products and niche offerings that fulfill specific needs like motherboards that support multiple socket form factors.

Today we are looking at our first ever ASRock motherboard here on PC Perspective. The K8 Upgrade 760GX motherboard is based on the SiS760GX chipset, and unlike the other three SiS760GX boards we reviewed not long ago, this board has the option of supporting Socket 939. Yes, that’s right. Feel like that Sempron is slowing you down, why not slap on an Athlon X2? The price is good. The gimmick sounds interesting, so what’s the catch? Let’s find out!
