Heat

Loading up the system with a full CPU workload, we check the surface temperature of the Asus U30j to determine how it deals with heat.

Ambient temperature was 23.1C / 73.6F.

The Asus U30 is a fairly warm notebook while under a full CPU load with temperatures in the 30C / 80F neighbourhood. The exhaust area does get pretty hot with a 35C / 95F on the underside, and a blistering 59C / 138F inside the duct. Best to keep the U30 on a hard surface if you're doing any prolonged intensive computations.

Weight

Asus U30 - 13.3"

MSI Wind U230 - 12.1" AMD Netbook

Asus Eee 1201N - 12.1" Intel with NVIDIA ION Netbook

Asus G51J 3D - 15.4" Gaming Notebook
Coming in at just under 5 lbs with the battery, the Asus U30 is still what I would
consider manageable to be carried around on a daily basis and not
require a backpack to support the weight.
