Corsair CM3X1024-1800C7D

Corsair and Super Talent sent along some of their top speed DDR3 memory for us to play around with and we came away more than slightly impressed about the future of DDR3 memory for the enthusiast!

When we first looked at the performance of DDR3 memory with the release of the P35 chipset this past June, we were initially under-whelmed.  At stock speeds at 1066 MHz, the advantages of DDR3 memory over current DDR2 memory platforms were miniscule and in some cases negative.

But the scene of the DDR3 memory market has quickly shifted and frequencies are going up and latencies are going down.  Various high-end memory companies have started selling the kind of memory that might just make the enthusiasts suck it up and throw down money for it.  Today I’ll look at a pair of kits submitted to me that both hit DDR3-1800 speeds from Corsair and Super Talent.

Corsair and Super Talent: Is DDR3 Ready for the Enthusiast? - Memory 16

Corsair’s top entry into the DDR3 memory market is with the CM3X1024-1800C7D 2GB kit.  Built using the Corsair Dominator DHX cooling system that we detailed in our first look at Dominator modules, this DDR3 kit has some impressive specifications:

Corsair and Super Talent: Is DDR3 Ready for the Enthusiast? - Memory 17

  Timings Frequency Voltage
SPD 9-9-9-24 1333 MHz 1.8v
Rated 7-7-7-20 1800 MHz 2.0v

The SPD settings are official JEDEC settings the memory modules report to the motherboard in order to at least TRY to guarantee compatibility.  The rated settings are what Corsair claims these modules will be able to do in the real world, without the approving nod of the JEDEC board.
