MSI R7950 Twin Frozr 3DG5/OC Review: Budget Tahiti or GTX 670 Pretender?

Author: Josh Walrath

Results: Metro 2033

Though we are coming up on a two year release date for this title, it still pushes modern cards to their limit (and beyond). I used the integrated benchmark with DX11/Ultra settings enabled with DOF off. AAA and 16X AF were enabled.

For some strange reason, AMD has always done very well in this particular game. Throughout all resolutions all three cards outpace the last gen N580GTX. The HD 7950 has a very strong showing, but of course drops behind the overclocked R7970 by a good margin. What is interesting here is that the HD 7950 does not lag very far behind that high end card until it reaches the 2560x1600 resolution.

399$ also buy ya a gtx670. Title says 670 but in the benchmark graph's list a 580.

In the "Test Setup" section I explained what cards I used in this review. So far I have no GTX 670 or 680 boards in residence for comparison purposes.

Interesting Josh doesn't have an SSD in his rig

heh, yeah Allyn needs to hook him up :P

Probably because of all the games he has to keep installed on there

Yeah, that would really only affect loading times, which I don't test when doing a vid card review. But Allyn is always welcome to throw me some SSDs whenever he feels like it!
