For our testing, using Quake III, both Demo001 and Quavar, and 3Dmark, I have tested the Hercules 3D Prophet against itself, overclocked, as well as the Elsa Gladiac and the Asus v6800 GeForce DDR. You may notice that I have left Unreal Tournament out of the ring this time; this is because UT no longer shows the scaling of video cards and their increasing technology. And away we go.

Test System Setup

  • Asus K7V
  • AMD Athlon 750
  • 128 MB PC133 Mushkin SDRAM

There is a slight improvement of the GeForce 2 cards over the V6800 GeForce DDR, but not in any significant numbers.

Here we are seeing the gap between the 16-bit and 32-bit color modes beginning to widen, as well as the gap between the GeForce and GeForce 2. In standard clock speed the Hercules is 33% faster than the Asus v6800 and the overclocked Hercules is 41% faster.

Now we see the extra fill rate of the GeForce 2 GTS chipset come into play at the high resolutions. Nearly 85% increase in frame rate in 16-bit and a 46% increase in the 32-bit color mode.
