Our Settings for Far Cry 3
In Far Cry 3 there is definitely some differences between the FRAPS data and our observed frame rate data though the pattern isn't as easily discernable as it was in previous gaming titles. The single GTX 660 is still slower than the HD 7870.
Clearly the HD 7870s in CrossFire have some problems with Far Cry 3, much more than the GTX 660s in SLI. Both single cards have consistent frame times but the HD 7870 is clearly the better option again.
The dramatic fall off of the frame rates on the HD 7870s in CrossFire is constant from the 50th percentile to the end but SLI has a pretty flat and consistent frame rate result. SLI on the GTX 660s scales from 28 FPS to 50 FPS - a healthy 78%.
Our frame variance data indicates that both single cards and the SLI configuration are nice and consistent but the CrossFire result is much worse.
Though the single HD 7870 is the better option when compared to the GTX 660, the SLI result is consistent from FRAPS to Frame Rating but the same cannot be said for HD 7870s in CrossFire.
Though frame rates are very low again in Far Cry 3, the single cards are very consistent at least. The CrossFire result has a ton of spikes between high and low frame resulting in runt frames. SLI is definitely more variant than the single GTX 660 but is still much better than CrossFire.
The single cards continue to have very positive traits in our minimum FPS graph here though SLI looks pretty good as well, scaling the GeForce card from 17 FPS to 35 FPS, nearly 100% scaling.
As you would expect, with all the runt frames in the CrossFire result we have high frame variance through out entire Far Cry 3 test run. SLI definitely has more variance than the single card but not exceeding more than 10-15 ms.
