Introduction

This week we decided to take a break from the usual computer hardware reviews to evaluate a couple products for creative artists and graphics professionals from a well-known company called Wacom. Wacom was kind enough to send us two products from their line of digital art tablets that meet a wide range of free-hand artist’s needs and desires. We received a medium-sized Intuos4 professional tablet and a Bamboo Pen and Touch tablet to review.

We received a medium-sized Intuos4 professional tablet and a Bamboo Pen and Touch tablet to review. Both of these products were designed with a different set of features and needs in mind so it will be interesting to see how these two products perform in Photoshop CS4.

The Intuos4 is the fourth version of an Intuos product line that has been around since 1998. This professional tablet features a new tip sensor that’s sensitive enough to single gram of pen pressure. The new Intuos4 provides more pen sensitivity levels than previous versions, which should give us pen strokes almost identical to the real thing. they also added several software improvements that users can incorporate into their design workflows, which is a big deal that was left out of previous Intuos offerings. Lastly, the Intuos4 pen  has a revamped Tip Sensor that adds levels of pressure sensitivity that should make every pen stroke very consistent and accurate.

The Bamboo Fun tablet includes an ergonomically-designed pen that lets new tablet users get their first taste of digital drawing and artistry. The pen also has multi-touch functions for changing brush sizes on the fly as well as different sensitivity levels and navigation and scrolling controls. The touch area itself can be navigated with simple hand gestures to make the screen larger and to zoom in on objects.
