One of the first things that grab your attention is the simple but yet, elegant design of the SG-01, from the stylish Silverstone logo to the well placed silver/chrome accents around the two 5.25' drive bays and the background behind the front access ports. Speaking of which in addition to the customary audio ports, the IEEE 1394 port and two USB 2.0 ports that have become standard on just about every case manufactured these days no matter what size footprint it may have, Silverstone has gone one step above and beyond by adding two additional USB 2.0 ports. Why? Simply put, in today's world you need just about every USB 2.0 port you can get, as just about every device we count on, requires USB 2.0 connectivity.

It didn't take us long to find one of the differences in version 3.1 of the SG-01. This side view is worth a thousand words, but I'll try not to use quite that many.

As you can see, there is a band of ventilation holes along both sides of the SG-1, but on top is where we see a major difference from earlier versions; instead of one set of ventilation holes on the top of the case the 3.1 has two, the reason for this will become obvious when we do our Internal Examination.

Switching now to the back of the SG-01, another difference looks us in the eye.

Instead of finding the 60 mm fan placement over the expansion slots on the right hand side, we find only four rows of vents in version 3.1, everything else is about the same with the large opening to accommodate a full size power supply, the standard opening for the motherboards I/O plate and in between five rows of vent holes flanked by two small holes on each side.

To enhance the cooling capabilities if the SG-01, Silverstone offers as an extra cost option, their FX121 cross flow fan with vibration dampening mounts which we will attach to those four little holes (the FX121 mounts on the inside, of course).
