Antec High Current Pro 1200W Power Supply Review

A Detailed Look

The Antec High Current Pro series 1,200W power supply features a dark blue finish with yellow and white detailing.  The steel enclosure measures 180mm (7.1”) long and uses a single 80mm fan on the back for cooling, which is becoming a rarity these days.  The majority of new PSUs use a large bottom mounted fan but as we will see later when we open up the HCP-1200, there is a good reason that Antec went with a traditional rear mounted 80mm fan.  The hybrid cable management system includes both hardwired and modular cables.

The backside panel features an open grill area over the rear-mounted 80mm fan and includes a power receptacle and master On-Off switch.  The honey comb grill on the back allows air to exhaust out of the power supply with minimal restriction and turbulence.

The fan speed is automatically controlled by the internal component temperature (speeds up as the combined load and temperature increases) via an onboard controller.  The San Cooler 80 fan has 7 blades and is manufactured by Sanyo Denki.

The Antec HCP-1200 power supply comes with a very good assortment of cables and connectors.  All of the cables are covered with black plastic mesh sleeving and measure approximately 21-½” to 25-½” long (to the first connector).

There are five modular cable sockets on the front of the PSU.  The three 6-pin black sockets are used for the modular peripheral device cables and the two 8-pin red sockets are used for additional PCI-E cables.
