Introduction

Antec is a well known name among PC enthusiasts and their line of PC power supplies, enclosures, and PC accessories is one of the most complete in the industry.  Antec’s unique CP series includes two power supply units, the CP-850 and the CP-1000 that we have in for review.  The CP series power supplies feature a unique form factor (CPX) that is larger than the standard ATX PSU.  The added space allows for more room between components, a better circuit board layout and straight-thru airflow, which all provide for more efficient cooling.  The CP series PSUs use a single 120mm fan on the front to push air through the unit and they come with a combination of fixed and modular cables.

Here is what Antec has to say about their CP-1000 power supply:

“The CP-1000 features a unique design with an advanced cooling system, exclusively compatible with some of Antec’s most cutting-edge Gaming and Performance One enclosures, including the Twelve Hundred, P183 and P193.  By breaking the mold of standard power supply size restrictions, the CP-1000 design is able to provide an excellent price-to-performance ratio.  A silent rear 120mm PWM fan and dual PCB layout also ensure optimal cooling performance and reliability.”

PSU Testing Methodology

Establishing an accurate load is critical to testing and evaluating a PC power supply.  PCPerspective’s power supply test bench can place a precise 2,000 watt DC load on the PSU under test.  Each power supply is tested under controlled, real-world conditions up to its maximum rated load, using both 115 VAC and 240 VAC line voltage.  Our current suite of tests includes:

•    DC Load Regulation
•    DC Line Regulation
•    DC Cross-load (unbalanced load)
•    AC Ripple and Noise
•    Power Factor
•    Efficiency
•    Differential Temperature
•    Noise
