They are bumping them up again. It's the X50 2.4Ghz model of Opteron. You should have a pretty good idea of how they perform by the time you get to the end of this massive benchmark comparison. Haven't seen these in the price engine yet, but curious what an 850 will go for. Yikes.

Looks like Sun is finally making strides towards the x86 market, even while they adopt Opteron servers into their foray of products. The question is, just how far can they go to be a top of the line competitors of today's x86 market. If some of the uniqueness of their x86 processor line is as accurate as described below, its possible they will give everyone a run for their money.
Niagara is notable for an unusual design that includes eight processing engines, or cores, each of which is capable of handling four instruction sequences called threads.

Well, looks like AMD has once again slashed prices to sell their product. Updating their site on May 6th with prices for 800 series Opterons looking the sweetest of all. I mean c'mon, an 844 model for under $700 combined with Tyan's Thunder K8QS 4-way Opteron board. Talk about some Distributed Computing power!

Some info on the upcoming chips being offered by AMD - 130 nm and 90 nm ... hope they're accurate!
The 130nm Athlon 64 with 512KB of on-die L2 cache, 'Newcastle', has a 150mm 2 die size. Its 90nm equivalent, 'Winchester', is just 83mm 2, the site reveals thanks to a reader who glimpsed an AMD presentation on the subject.
