MSI P4N Diamond nForce SLI Intel Board Review

Subject: Motherboards | May 23, 2005 - 02:49 PM |

The gang at Hexus.net has a review up of the MSI motherboard powered by the Intel Edition of the nForce4 SLI chipset.

The SLI performance problem that the likes of Dell would inevitably gloss over, but has been graphically (pun intended) shown on the previous few pages is squarely down to Pentium 4s' relatively weak gaming performance that's exhibited at lower resolutions and/or with games that rely on masses of subsystem grunt.

HardwareZone has a review up of the Gigabyte 955X motherboard, dubbed the "Royal".

Performance-wise, the GA-8I955X Royal was able to perform as well and in some cases outperform the Intel 925XE Express reference board, meeting our expectations for the new chipset. It also showed some exceptional performance in the hard drive subsystem testing.

Dual Core Will Not Increase Mobo Sales

It looks like some motherboard vendors are predicting a stagnant market even with both AMD and Intel pushing dual core processors to anyone and everyone.  With the AMD X2's only needing a BIOS update and Pentium D platform pretty high on the price scale, this makes a lot of sense.

However, AMD's new dual-core Athlon64 X2 CPUs will be Socket 939 solutions, and can be supported by current K8 motherboards, which will only need to have their BIOS upgraded, the makers said.

nForce4 SLI Intel Edition Not Living Up to Claims?

Subject: Motherboards | May 6, 2005 - 08:14 AM |

The Inquirer seems to have reason to believe that the nForce4 SLI Intel Edition is living up to claims NVIDIA made for it and increased gaming performance.  They are also asking for retail motherboard reviews, which I will have one here for you on Monday or Tuesday.  I am going to have to disagree with their statements though, as our game testing on NVIDIA's SLI technology on the Intel platform did in fact show some reasonable performance gains.&nb

Gigabyte 955X Royal Motherboard Review

Damn, I feel important just reading a Royal motherboard review!  The board reviewed here is based on Intel's 955X chipset that supports dual core processors as well as the latest single core products.  l

Regarding the 8I955X-Royal, Gigabyte certainly has a board that's big on features and great on stability. We thought that the performance was a bit lacking in some areas and overclocking wasn't as great as we've experienced with other boards in the past.

I am sure many of you remember the trouble that Abit found itself in financially when they came under investigation by the Taiwan version of the SEC, but now things seem to be looking up for the motherboard manufacturer.  A new investor in the form of the CEO of the largest transportation group in Taiwan, has put in enough of of his own money to become a majority share holder.  Now, I don't know what affect this is going to have on the company in general, their product lines or anything, but we'll be meeting with them extensivel
