The Saiger 9750-C that [H]ard|OCP ordered is a very powerful laptop, but it is fairly heavy, and the battery really won't last long.  Considering the components they chose, including an X2 4200+, 2 Gigs of RAM and a GeForce Go 7800GTX, that really isn't a surprise.  Drop by to see just how powerful a laptop it is.

The guys at The Inq snapped some pics of the new Toshiba Qosimo laptop with HD-DVD built in. The pictures show a new touch-pad design that has tap-sensitive areas that macro to actions (i.e. e-mail, web browser, print) and to top it off the pad is also backlit. It's not a huge innovation, but it's still good to see something different on a laptop.

"The best of the bunch was the backlit trackpad function buttons.

Yesterday I read two of the most illogical laptop stories - Apple's decision to legally threaten Something Awful, and professors who are banning laptops from the classroom.

The story behind the Apple vs. Something Awful blows my mind. The issue is a thread in the Something Awful forum that links to a manual hosted at Apple. Apple lawyers, apparently, think this is illegal since it violates their client's IP. SA isn't even hosting said file!

Asus has a Leather Fetish

In our review of the Asus W5F laptop posted yesterday, I made a comment that the laptop market is hot. Maybe it's gotten too hot because Asus is launching a 11" Core Duo laptop that has a leather covering! The leather comes in two different colours: dark chocolate, and camel. There are reports of a hot-pink version as well but Asus has not officially mentioned it even though their product images show a pink version.

But knowing how I treat my own laptop, the last thing I need to worry about is the leather staining from my coffee or water. Plastic wipes easily, leather does not.

"Simply put, the ultramobile PC (UMPC) is a tablet computer which will run a modified version of

Windows XP Tablet edition and is powered by an Intel processor.
