It's quite a mouthful, but Intel's WPAN is kind of like Bluetooth on steroids.  You get 480Mbps at a range of 10 meters or less, but no further, and Intel refers to it as wireless USB.  Tweaktown can give you more from the demo at IDF Taiwan.

Devices, Inc. (NYSE: AMD) and ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX: ATY, NASDAQ:
ATYT) today announced that the Ontario Superior Court of Justice has
issued the final order approving the arrangement under which all of
ATI's outstanding common shares will be acquired by an indirect wholly
owned subsidiary of AMD. The proposed acquisition, announced on July 24,
2006, is expected to be completed during the week of October 23, subject
to satisfaction or waiver of customary closing conditions.

You can tell by the name, the Fanatec Heäd$h0t, that this mouse is a little unusual.  The fact that it comes in a clear plastic briefcase, just to hold the mousepad/USB hub, the power brick you need to run the thing, oh, and the mouse too.  ExtremeTech attempts to figure out what this 200dpi beast does, and if it will help you get more "Heäd$h0ts".

ATI Shareholders Approve Acquisition by AMD

MARKHAM, Ontario - October 13, 2006 - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX: ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT) shareholders voted overwhelmingly today to approve the proposed acquisition of all outstanding common shares of ATI by an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD). More than 99 per cent of the votes cast by shareholders were in favor of the transaction. No ATI shareholders have exercised rights of dissent in connection with the proposed acquisition.

ATI will seek final court approval for the arrangement at a hearing on October 17, 2006.

These new features, according to a link on Slashdot, will really help you out when you are using your computer.  The home versions won't let you install via virtual machines, the migration policies are even tighter than XP's and an equivalent to WGA comes pre-installed.  Read the full article to get a better idea what this will mean, apart from higher sales of Ultimate Edition.

Saint's Row does look very GTA-ish at first glance.  [H]ard|OCP would like to dispel that myth, as they found the game to be better executed that any of the other clones, and feel that calling it an improved sequel to GTA3 might have been a better idea.

Google office appears

Slashdot has a link to the new incarnation of Writely, as a Google product.  The new Google Docs and Spreadsheets allows you to create documents and spreadsheet, which you probably figured out, but it also allows you to upload various formats, including Excel, Word and Open Office.  It also makes it very easy to get at those documents from anywhere you can log into your Google account.

You are never guaranteed that the system you buy today won't be obsolete in the next week, in fact the guarantee works the opposite.  However, with the new platforms that just came out, PCI Express, DDR2 and dual core, it would seem logical that a system should be OK with several partial upgrades over the next year.

Battlefield 2142 is creating a lot of stir, and not all of it is good.  On one hand you have futuristic weapons and vehicles, on the other hand, you get to pay full price for a game that uses the same engine as BF2, which a lot of fans feel should make it a less expensive add-on.  Then they offer the demo only to people with paid accounts on download sites.
