AMD and Crytek Release 64-bit Version of Far Cry

I just got a press release in my email box about AMD releasing an upgrade to Far Cry that enables 64-bit support.  Even though we have seen these claims with a previous software title, this time around the marketing team seems to have gotten things right, by not trying to scam any consumers.  The example screenshots they have look like reasonable upgrades and I am currently downloading the files to test for the changes myself.  I am curious to see whether or not the new features will work on Intel's EM64T technology and if I might be able to hack them on in 32-bit mode.  We shall see.


Microsoft(r) Windows(r) XP Pro x64 Edition operating system and 64-bit optimized Far Cry software, gamers will notice larger and more detailed areas to explore, exclusive 64-bit maps, longer view distances, unique and exciting game object textures and a 64-bit exclusive "barrel storage area" that demonstrates impressive, life-like object physics movement.


"AMD64 platforms are providing game developers with incredible game design, flexibility and freedom. There are specific enhancements we wanted to create, like view distances, texture details, map sizes and graphics that 32-bit platforms could not handle," said Cevat Yerli, chief executive officer and president at Crytek. "Working with AMD64 processors in a 64-bit world has given us valuable insights on how we can continue to leverage 64-bit processing in the future. What is most eye-opening about the 64-bit Far Cry is that we are only now beginning to tap into the potential power of the AMD64 platform."
