Finally AMD fans are seeing some action, with the new chipset accompanying the release of the Phenom II.  Based around the 790GX, the GX indicating an integral graphics core, the Asus M3A78-Tis one of the newest boards for AMD users.  There are an abundance of connectors on the back, ranging from familiar NICs and Firewire, but also DVI and D-Sub and many more, giving incredible flexibilty straight out of the box.  CPU3D was quite impressed and didn’t have anything bad to say about the board, except to remind people that a Dragon platform is still no match for a Core i7 in raw power.

“In the review, we’ll be taking a look at the Asus M3A78-T motherboard. It utilises the AMD 790GX chipset with SB700 southbridge. It features onboard graphics in the form of a Radeon HD 3300 and supports ATI CrossfireX, DDR2 ram, and of course the new AMD Phenom II processors AM2+. We’ll be comparing the Asus M3A78-T (790GX) motherboard, against the MSI K9A2 Platinum (790FX) motherboard … to see how well it performs.

The motherboard does not feature any heatpipe chispet cooling, instead it come with just a standard heatsink, which should be enough. The rear ATX I/O panel comes with a host of video out connectors, including DVI, D-Sub and HDMI … great for A/V addicts. Other connectors include the usual PS/2 keboard or mouse, optical SPDIF, 6 USB, Firewire, eSATA, gigabit ethernet and an array of audio connectors. The motherboard features Asus’s own instant boot system, which you’ll find as part of their Express Gate feature. It’s very similar to ASRock’s infamous instant boot feature.”
