Crossfire's new and improved southbridge

The main achilles heel for ATI's motherboards have been the lack of features incorporated on the board. The Crossfire issues of the first runs seem to have been fixed, but compared to the features found on nForce boards, they just can't compete. The Tech Report looks at the Crossfire Xpress 3200, and the new SB600 southbridge, to see what ATI has done to remedy the situation.
ASUS makes a triple play with Core 2

The Tech Report contrasts three Core 2 motherboards from ASUS. The P5B Deluxe Wifi-AP Edition (Intel 965), P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe (nForce4 SLIX16) and P5W DH Deluxe (Intel 975X) are all present. They all have differences, one of the biggest for gamers being that the Intel965 board doesn't support SLI or CrossFire, though it does have WiFi, the nVIDIA board supports SLI, and the 975X supports CrossFire.

DDR versus DDR2 on the same board

AnandTech utilizes the abilty for the ASRock 775Dual-VSTA to run either DDR or DDR2 to provide a good look at the benefits of moving to the new RAM. Find out if the tighter timings on the slower DDR can keep up with the faster and looser DDR2. Also, since this board supports AGP and PCI-E graphics cards, there is no easier way to move to Core 2 Duo.

Asustek Computer is interested in acquiring another motherboard specialist Gigabyte Technology, which shows better strength in distribution, according to sources in the Taiwan motherboard industry.
Biostar TForce 550 Motherboard Review

The gang over at HardOCP has reviewed the Biostar motherboard based on the nForce 550 chipset; and they say it makes a decent budget motherboard.
As Jake mentioned above that the power components would get hotter when water cooling, this is exactly what I saw. The VRMs on the board were at 250F without any airflow at stock settings with the FX-62.

Some of the fallout from the ATI-AMD merger has made itself apparent. The ATI RD600 for Conroe will still be released, but as TweakTown discovered, it is likely to be the last Intel compatible Radeon chipset.

[H]ard|OCP put a lot of effort into pushing the Foxconn C51XEM2AA to the fastest FSB they could. While it can reach 250, it was far from stable, and while not an amazing overclock, when you consider this is a brand new chipset, it speaks well of the potential for the nForce 590 as it matures.
