ExtremeTech spills the beans on ATI and nVIDIA's newest series, the CrossFire Xpress 3200, and the nForce 500.  ATI has extended their existing 3200 series, while nVIDIA has changed almost everything.

"You have to hand it to the core logic designers. Back when AMD first announced that they'd embed a

memory controller onto the CPU die, speculation was rampant that premium core logic for the Athlon 64

was dead. Since memory controller performance and efficiency was often the key differentiator in many

core logic sets, the pundits believed that chipset makers would be reduced to selling a PCI Express

bridge (for the graphics card) and a southbridge chip with I/O. And no one would ever want to spend

premium bucks for I/O.

Fast forward to today, and we see both ATI and Nvidia competing toe-to-toe for the hearts and minds of

performance hobbyists and hardcore gamers. Nvidia gets the credit for revitalizing what appeared to be

a moribund market. And when there's money to be made, other companies will jump into the fray. "
