In preparation for Intel's 3rd generation of Intel Core microprocessor architecture (can you see we are dancing around things already), MSI has started showing a new line of motherboards.  While at CES in January we saw the Z77A-GD65 option that will be available soon and offers some interesting new specs and features.

The Z77A-GD65 sports Military Class III components as well as support for a host of new items including PCI Express 3.0 and USB 3.0.  While we can't share much more than that in terms of details I thought it might be worth showing off a few shots of the upcoming motherboard from our friends at MSI.

It looks like the board will support 3-Way SLI and CrossFireX configurations.

USB 3.0 is handled directly on-board this time around rather than with third-party controllers.

Ryan,

Not trying to bust your chops at all, so please do not take that way. Can you please clarify? You say they are previewing them, but you refer to seeing them at CES in Jan. Does that mean they have been previewing them since CES or has something changed? And how does these boards being available soon correlate with Intel pushing back the release schedule for Ivy Bridge?

If I understand what I have been reading from various sites, Z77 and motherboards based on the 70 series chipset will be available before Ivy Bridge desktop processors. New motherboards will be available early April and desktop Ivy Bridge processors will be available late April. Current Sandy Bridge LGA1155 CPUs can use these boards so there is nothing preventing a staggered release such as this.

Personally I am more interested in seeing Z77 motherboards with Intel Thunderbolt (LightPeak). PCIe 3.0 and USB 3.0 is all good and well but its not like we haven’t seen these features on PC motherboards before. Intel Thunderbolt may be of limited use but still it’s a new option to PC users,…
