The Asus M4A78T-E, Gigabyte’s GA-MA790FXT-UD5P, a Jetway HA08 and MSI’s 790FX-GD70 are all compared in a big motherboard round up at The Tech Report.  Each and every one of these boards can be picked up for less than $200 and support DDR3 along with the Phenom II, making them rather attractive competitors to the Core i7 when you consider the entry fee.  The tests were run using Corsair CM3X1024-1333C9DHX DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz and a Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition 2.8GHz processor; head over to see how well they all performed.

“A wave of new Socket AM3 motherboards has arrived, capable of combining the latest Phenom II processors with surprisingly inexpensive DDR3 memory. We’ve collected four boards from Asus, Gigabyte, Jetway, and MSI to see which offers the best basis for a Phenom II system.”
