A whole lot of press releases from Ageia, the pioneers of the PhysX physics processing unit, hit my inbox a bit ago.

First up, it looks like the Playstation 3 is going to have some Ageia Physics middleware to aid in development of games on the new console.  Fans of City of Hereos and those looking forward to City of Villians will be interested to know that the Ageia NovodeX physics software is going to be used in the engine for the game and for future developments.  Surely many of you have seen the Ghost Recon 3 videos around around the web today, and it turns out Ageia had a little something to do with that as well.  The multithreaded capabilities of the NovodeX engine are used to harness the power of the new multi-core console processors.

There are lot more PR releases on this page today, and I imagine you’ll plenty more pop up during the E3 show this week.

This is all good news of course, as the more developers take this Ageia technology and implement it into their game software, the closer and more likely we will be to see vast improvements in game play with regards to physics and the possibility of using a hardware based physics processor.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — May 17, 2005 — At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), AGEIA™ Technologies, Inc., the pioneer in hardware-accelerated physics for games, today announced that YAGER Development GmbH of Germany will be demonstrating the hardware acceleration of AGEIA’s PhysX processor during the E3 exhibition. The demo will offer a first look at YAGER Development’s Eye of the Storm (working title), an action game focusing on futuristic guerilla combat in rich, war-ridden urban environments.
