Plasma is on it's way out and SEC is on it's way in, according to Auphan Online.  The technology in a Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display is like a CRT, but instead of an electron gun it uses surface conduction electron emitters to make the phosphur glow, allowing it to remain as thin as an LCD.
