The Inquirer got a glance at the first HD-DVD player of the year!

It looks thick to us but so did the first DVD players. This device should probably see the light of the consumer shelves sometimes in summer time but we will try to learn more. Its called HD XA1 and it has support for HD content up to 1080I trough HDMI and can also scale down to 720P and 1080P. It plays conventional old DVD's.

As you can see it has lot of connectors at the back including multi channel decoder with 5.1 out.

More time was spent talking about the success of PS2 and PSP. While there was understandably no actual news about PS2, with most of the talk about the machine being on its continually strong sales and continued market dominance, Sony did seem very interested in bolstering the media capabilities of the PSP.

HardOCP Water Cools the Xbox 360

Those nuts at HardOCP have ripped apart an Xbox 360 and water cooled it -- and they say its easy to do!!!

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with our Xbox 360 H20 project. We met most of the goals we set forth four years ago with our original mod, and we are — once again — the first people to water cool an Xbox.

In the end, we set out to water cool an Xbox 360 simply 'because we could' but it turned out to be a fantastic venture, and overall a huge benefit to the Xbox 360 cooling.

A serious exploit has been found that takes advantage of the Windows Meta File Vulnerability. Please drop by this thread that Ned Slider put together in our SVT forum. It contains steps that can help you protect your system from this exploit.

The exploit uses specially crafted Windows Metafiles (WMF) to execute malicious code, usually a trojan downloader, to download and install malicious software onto the users computer. At present, these WMF's are being hosted on a number of malicious websites.

Well, one launch down and two more to go. All in all, the Xbox 360 is an impressive piece of hardware. Microsoft has really succeeded in pushing forward the technology in game consoles. With High Definition, wireless remotes, and state of the art technology, the Xbox 360 is a definite winner. However, we suggest waiting it out until the PS3 and Revolution are released, and then choosing the best console.

RAR Leaves Symantec Vulnerable

According to Alex Wheeler, Symantec products are vulnerable to heap overflow exploitation caused by RAR compressed files. According to Wheeler, the scanning of compressed RAR files leaves Symantec software (not just their anti-virus software) leaves the software open for possible exploitation by hackers.
