Tagged: vertex, ssd, ocz, giveaway, contest

As you can no doubt tell, PC Perspective got a HUGE and much needed facelift over the weekend to what we are internally calling "PC Perspective v4.0".  I know there are still some kinks to work out and we are actively addressing any feedback from our readers in this comment thread.

But we want to celebrate the launch of the new site in style!!  Some of our site sponsors have very generously offered up some prizes for us to give out throughout the coming days...

The first prize: a 120GB OCZ Technology Vertex 2 SSD!!

What do you have to do to win this wonderful piece of hardware?

Couldn't be easier: post a comment in this post thanking OCZ for its sponsorship of PC Perspective and maybe include a thought or two on the new site design (compliments, constructive criticism, hate filled monologues, whatever).  You should probably have a registered account or at least be sure you include your email address in the appropriate field so we can contact you!

We will pick a winner tomorrow and move on to the next hardware that finds its way to PC Perspective offices.  Good luck and thanks for reading!!

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring PCPER! with great* products!

As for the new PcPer site design... it is new and refreshing but felt some what slower to load than old out dated site.

Hope PCPER will tweak things as it goes on.

Thank you!

by the way... i know it's a podcast but i wouldn't mind seeing video uploads aswell more often than not.

Thanks, OCZ! I'm liking the new PCPer site. Much better than the old design.

April 18, 2011 | 11:21 AM - Posted by Ray Moore (not verified)

The new site looks great. Thanks to all the sponsors that keep PCPer going. It's great to have a website/podcast that keeps us (i.e. the hardware heads) coming back for more.

Thank you, OCZ Technology, for your sponsorship of PCPer! The site looks fantastic. I'll need to spend more time on it before I can offer any criticisms.

April 18, 2011 | 11:23 AM - Posted by BuddyJesus (not verified)

Love the new site design. PCPer always keeps it classy. Thanks to OCZ too for sponsoring a cool giveaway too. I think OCZ is my favorite hardware company to deal with because they make good products and then stand by them. Kudos!

Thanks for sponsoring PC Perspecive. New design is a breath of fresh air. No doubt bugs have to be worked out. Would it be possible to use the same userid and password for the website and the forums?

April 18, 2011 | 11:23 AM - Posted by Mitch (not verified)

Thanks to OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective to help make this all possible!
The new site design is much improved over the old one, while i am used to the old one, this should not take to long to get used to. I like that the most recent reviews are easy to find, it makes coming to the site easy to spot whats new in between listening to the PC Perspective Podcast!

April 18, 2011 | 11:23 AM - Posted by Joshua D (not verified)

I really have no bad things to say about OCZ. They've always had great memory, and now they make amazing SSDs. The speeds offered are fantastic

April 18, 2011 | 11:25 AM - Posted by Continuum (not verified)

I would suggest that the selector for the top five news articles on the home page be moved slightly towards the bottom-right to not cover up the images.

April 18, 2011 | 11:25 AM - Posted by Tedknaz (not verified)

The new logo and base site layout are great; a good improvement for focusing on news. OCZ, you're pretty awesome. I have an OCZ ssd in my work machine and it just flies; it's significantly better than the 10k rpm hard drive I was working off of before. My criticism: The radial story selection UI on the main page is distracting and a little unweildly.

April 18, 2011 | 11:26 AM - Posted by William Burlingame (not verified)

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PCPER. I just installed an OCZ drive in my desktop and I've been looking for one to install in my laptop. I've been very happy with the drive.

April 18, 2011 | 11:26 AM - Posted by Edmund (not verified)

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring PCPER. OCZ makes terrific products like the Vertex 2 120GB SSD you are giving away.

I like the new web layout, it's very clean looking. I like the green tabs, it makes them stand out. How about adding a video tab and put all your video reviews there? Just a thought.

OCZ, thanks for sponsoring PCPer.com

When i think of fast, affordable ssd's i think of ocz. i'm loving the new pcper design too. i especially like the leaderboard and realtime pricing links!

April 18, 2011 | 11:27 AM - Posted by Anthony (not verified)

I think the roundedness of everything is a bit overboard but still a huge improvement over PCPer 3.0.

April 18, 2011 | 11:27 AM - Posted by Jon Stanis (not verified)

That's for sponsoring the great stuff at pcper OCZ. I love the layout of the new site as well as the new colors. Only criticism was the leader board was not complete at launch, but looks fine now.

April 18, 2011 | 11:28 AM - Posted by Mark (not verified)

I have used OCZ ram for yrs and I'm glad there a sponsor for you. The website is looking good.

April 18, 2011 | 11:29 AM - Posted by Joel M (not verified)

Awesome giveaway! I am glad that OCZ has recognized that PCPer is a perfect match for their sponsorship. Thanks OCZ.

So far I'm digging the redesign's restructuring of the content and the good layout. Kudos to the team for their hard work on it!

Thanks to OCZ for supporting PC Perspective.
OCZ, great tech products, and PC Perspective, a great tech review/info website, a match made in heaven!

PS I like the look of PCper v4.0
Keep up the good work.

Thanks OCZ, still love my gen 1 agility drives. Love the new site design too.

April 18, 2011 | 11:39 AM - Posted by klatch

Thank you OCZ for your support of PCPer. I'm loving the site refresh - I would often refer people to PCPer for reviews and news and the site design was not reflective of the quality of the content. It is good to see your sponsors stand offering up prizes like this and they must be happy as well that PCPer has updated the site as well. Keep up the good work guys, and thank you sponsors - know that if there are two vendors with similar products I generally go with the ones that support my fav site - so your sponsorship does work.

Way to go OCZ! Keep em coming!

April 18, 2011 | 11:41 AM - Posted by zezzex

OCZ is clearly the SSD market leader. I own a 120GB vertex 2 and I just love it.

April 18, 2011 | 11:43 AM - Posted by Chunkmeister

April 18, 2011 | 11:43 AM - Posted by Super Six Two (not verified)

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring the great site that is PC Per.
I love the new design. It finally looks like this site is from 2011. The design was one of the only things I didn't like before but now it is great.

April 18, 2011 | 11:45 AM - Posted by Noel (not verified)

I LOVE OCZ SSDs! Thanks to them for helping make PC Perspective possible. I was already considering buying an SSD and this would really help out. The site is definitely modernized and well organized. The only thing I don't like is that "swoosh" thing on the front page slideshow with the 1-5, but that's a purely aesthetic thing.

April 18, 2011 | 11:45 AM - Posted by Xebec (not verified)

OCZ, Serious thanks for sponsoring PC Perspective -- this is a great tech website, and as OCZ knows PCPer provides the best reviews on storage (don't ask Allyn though :) )...

As for PCPer v4.. first thought was.. wow.. bright green.. almost like the ANSI/BBS days green.. not bad though.. next thought was.. not the friendliest website for phone/tablet browsing when running in full browser mode.. I think the 'look' is great, but the formatting could still use a little work.. a little bit wide even for 1280 wide displays when viewing under firefox...

April 18, 2011 | 11:45 AM - Posted by Gls90a

Thanks again OCZ for your continued sponsership of PCPER. I have never used a SSD before but I would love to be able to try one out.

As always, love the podcast and enjoy the new website. Its going to take a few weeks to get used to where everything is, but overall looks like a nice improvement.

I love the site design

April 18, 2011 | 11:47 AM - Posted by constantino

wow :D

fantastic new layout, the new entry menu is great :D

however the quality of pictures used in homepage is poor, at least for me... they pixelized here, and appears seems like no AA O_O

hahahha

congrats, man.

April 18, 2011 | 11:49 AM - Posted by Steve (not verified)

Thanks OCZ for supporting PCPer. there site is much nicer now and easier to navigate. the only thing that i am not much of a fan of is on the front page. where everything cycles through the first 5 new feeds. it could just be me not liking change.

April 18, 2011 | 11:50 AM - Posted by Dale (not verified)

Thanks OCZ. Hope I win!

April 18, 2011 | 11:51 AM - Posted by JamJam (not verified)

The new colour pallete is rather pleasing and has definitely improved my performance when browsing the site (but not in the bedroom ). My eye floats around the page menu structure with consumate ease. The rounded corners help prevent injuries. I feel invigorated after visiting.

The rumours are true, I have had a mini love affair with OCZ products. It started many years ago with memory modules. ALL HAIL REAPER! After Allyn's thumbs up for the Vertex2 SSD's I bought quite a few. Love the little blighters. I've also spec'd a few machines with RevoDrives for when SATA is just not enough. I applaud OCZ's efforts in pushing forward on the SSD front and would like to thank them for helping PCPer do what they do so well.

We're done here.

Thanks OCZ for your excellent sponsorship of PC Perspective!

This new site design is very slick, and is a great pay off for sponsors as it should attract more users and retain regular readers!

April 18, 2011 | 11:54 AM - Posted by terminal addict

Sweet! Thanks OCZ! I'm glad that you recognize, and support, a quality site.

As for PCPer v4.0, well...

It's not that I dislike it. It's just that I come here for content. I could honestly care less what it "looks like".

The use of Flash is disappointing. Give me a basic page with no animations, no "on-event"-type scripts, black text on white background, and photos/logos/advertising (an understandable necessity) in static images any day. This comment isn't contrary to my "care less what it looks like" comment, but has more to do with the various computers/devices that I use for viewing web sites. A simplified "interface" makes it more consistent across platforms, and doesn't have as great an impact on battery life for mobile devices.

April 18, 2011 | 11:54 AM - Posted by thrones801

Thanks OCZ for the support of pcper.com. Love the new site design, good luck to Ryan and crew.

April 18, 2011 | 11:56 AM - Posted by cdmattax

Thanks, OCZ! The new PCPer site is quite nice.

April 18, 2011 | 11:57 AM - Posted by stefan (not verified)

OCZ is an interesting company. I grew up using only Asus, Intel, Kingston, and Western Digital parts. Lately I've had some experiences with OCZ parts and like what I have seen thus far. Thank you OCZ for sponsoring PCper. The old site was looking klunky and old. I'll be coming to PCper for the more than just the Hardware leader board and SSD decoder ring now.

April 18, 2011 | 12:00 PM - Posted by Hocus (not verified)

Thank you OCZ, OCZ has been making great products for a long time.

Good to see OCZ sponsoring Perspective. I have 60gb Vertex II's in my notebooks. Now if I only had one for my desktop computer. I am an OCZ fanboy!

April 18, 2011 | 12:01 PM - Posted by Michael Dombrowski (not verified)

Thanks OCZ for supporting such a great website. I love the new site and was just thinking about how bad the design was (sorry Ryan) and then I get a tweet that it has a new design. So thanks OCZ!

April 18, 2011 | 12:02 PM - Posted by AParsh135i

Hats off to OCZ for their progression in the SSD market. It's great to see a company their size successfully compete against the giant that is Intel.
As far as the new site goes - the layout is great, the new color scheme and graphics looks modern. My only complaint is that i was not able to log into my old PCPer account and had to create a new one. It would be great to put a note by the login that lets people know they need a new account.

April 18, 2011 | 12:02 PM - Posted by sosoggy (not verified)

I don't think OCZ could have sponsored a better a website.

As for the design, its nice to see you guys join the 21st century.

April 18, 2011 | 12:04 PM - Posted by PatrickP61

It is just outstanding for OCZ to help websites like PC Perspective. It is rare that you find such a good site that stays as up-to-date as it can, while giving good quality information. Thank you OCZ for your excellent products and for sponsoring PCPer!

April 18, 2011 | 12:04 PM - Posted by Jason (not verified)

Wow thanks OCZ for Sponsoring PC Perspective, this is an awesome drive. It would go great in the new rig I'm building. The colors on the site seem a little muted to me, I much prefer bright spring like colors.

Really thankful OCZ sponsors great sites like this one so I can enjoy all the tech reports. So much appreciated OCZ. P.S. The site looks good find it easier to find things. It simplifies things quite a bit. Keep up the good work and also love the Podcast.

Way to go OCZ!!!
Thanks for supporting PCPer. Like the new site, but I don't really like the 1-5 buttons blocking the picture inside of the news feed slideshow. Keep up the great work!

April 18, 2011 | 12:20 PM - Posted by Dolan Quilala (not verified)

I love OCZ products.

April 18, 2011 | 12:24 PM - Posted by Darkstryke (not verified)

I won't suck up just because there's a free prize at stake. The 25nm bait & switch along with past practices has really turned off some people, but I will give a good nod to that practice hopefully ending if the Anand article is to be believed (with part number alterations to reflect nand variations).

Hopefully lesson learned, as I do have 3 barefoot vertex first gens still going. Thanks for supporting pcper, lets just keep a level head about things around here.

First, thanks to OCZ for continued sponsorship and producing quality products. Second, tanks PCPer for helping me stay up to date on the world of PC tech. And Third, i'm still finding issues with the new design using FF4, particularly when viewing a few articles that are squeezed into one narrow column down the right-middle of the page.

April 18, 2011 | 12:44 PM - Posted by Anonymous (not verified)

The new site format is busy; it seems cramped.

April 18, 2011 | 12:47 PM - Posted by Imperfectlink

A big thank you to OCZ for providing this SSD for the giveaway and for supporting one of my most visited hardware sites. I have long been lusting after a Vertex SSD due to the economy have failed to put one on the budget.

A well deserved thanks also goes to PcPerspective for being a great source of information all these years. The redesign puts a better emphasis on your own content (generated by you) which is what I'm usually here for. The color scheme adds some much needed spice which maintaining a professional yet edgy complexion.

Keep up the good work fellas and good luck to everyone else entering the giveaway.

April 18, 2011 | 12:56 PM - Posted by Blitz

Thank you OCZ for supporting one of the top hardware sites on the net. And to the PCPer Crew, you guys rock. You are one of only 3 hardware sites that I trust when I am about to spend *MY* money.

As for the site redesign, well, normally I'd be grumpy and mumble about why change something that was already good enough (sorry, I am over 30), but I have spent a little time looking around and I think it works pretty good and looks good too.

One request, someone light a fire under Allyn and get him to update the SSD decoder, pretty please?!

April 18, 2011 | 12:59 PM - Posted by Ryan Shrout

Lol I'll let him know! :D

April 18, 2011 | 01:02 PM - Posted by Kurt (not verified)

April 18, 2011 | 01:08 PM - Posted by mugginz

Good to see OCZ supporting the tech press and I'd especially like to thank them for sponsoring my favorite tech review site (the source of the most humorous and informative PCPer podcast. :)

This OCZ SSD would sure look nice sitting in my upcoming new AMD Bulldozer machine :D. I'm an SSD convert ever since installing a smaller 32G unit into my current Q6600 machine and would never go back to a spinning hard drive for the OS. The machine's much snappier now so I can only imagine what a much faster SSD like a Vertex2 would do.

Love the new site look. Really clean and easy to navigate.

Thanks guys,
mugginz.

I like the new site, its seems clear and more dynamic than the previous one. And for some odd reason i like the color scheme too.

Wow this new style is amazing! A definite thanks is in very much due to OCZ for their fantastic sponsorship of PCPer. I am in need of a new or at least upgraded SSD, as I've been using the same one for many years. By the way, please keep this color scheme in addition to the layout of things as I'm really liking it.

Thanks a lot, OCZ! As for the website, I think having the login box to one side (or a javascript dropdown) would be better than having it inline with the rest of the sections. Right now, there's a large amount of blank space to the right of the login box that could be better utilized.

The new site is WICKED! Love the color, style, and functionality! Great design work from all involved! Would be nice to have an easy to see one click link to the latest PC per podcast. Perhaps you could also slow down the page change in the main window as it cycles too fast to read through. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to win an OCZ Technology Vertex 2 120GB SSD! Thanks to OCZ and PC per for giving us all this opportunity! Good luck everyone!

This not "one click" enough?

http://www.pcper.com/category/tags/podcast

It's a primary tab at the top of the site now.

Sorry Ryan, missed it in my excitement to enter the contest!

Thank you OCZ for helping make PC Perspective possible! I have been considering buying an SSD and this definately is going ot help out. I love the layout of the site, and its articles.

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring the PCPer. PCPer is always one of the first sites I check for tech information and reviews so it's good to see companies which I like sponsoring quality sites like PCPer.

As for the new website, I'm still getting used to it but my first impression of the redesign is that it's a little laggy. The lag's not terrible but there seems to be a sec or two for which my system becomes unresponsive when I initially load the page. That said, it's still much more responsive than the old website.

Thanks OCZ!

My only complaint about the new site design is that it has a bit too much of a pre-fab feel. But it is functional, and that is what is important, thanks!

The new site looks great.

Honestly I do miss the old site, the layout was intuitive and worked great for me. I am finding it feeling a bit 'condensed' but I will give it some more time before I make cast further judgement. It does certainly look more spiffy though.

BTW - I would love to see a review of the new 'max iops' enthusiast line from OCZ and also some dirt on the revo-drive x3. Because I really want to dump a wad of cash into a product like that... but my pocket books have else something to say about this.

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring a website that I visit daily for the latest technology news! I love your SSDs and currently have a 60gb agility in my laptop. The added speed and capacity of this 120gb vertex 2 would be awesome! And PC Perspective, I am loving everything about the new site except for the latest reviews section. I liked it better before when I was able to just glance at it more quickly and see if anything applied to my interests. Other than that way to go on the new layout!

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring PCPER. Please put out a primer on how best to separate OS and Data. Too much conflicting information out there.

Thanks!

Definitely like the new site. Easier to get around, and much easier on the eyes. Hope you guys are around for years to come!

Thank you to OCZ for supporting PCPer with a super SSD giveaway. Thanks to Ryan and all the guys at the site for all the hard work and super content. The new site format has been fun to get to know and use. One thing I'd like to see addressed is the 'Latest Forum' tab on the right side of the page which does not seem to populate with forum posts when I select it. Congrats on the site make over!

OCZ, good job on sponsoring PC Per.

As far as feed back for the site goes... You're already looking at a bigger font, so I guess all I can do is throw in support for the one guy's idea of having a wide screen mode. There is an awful lot of blank space that can get used.

April 18, 2011 | 03:00 PM - Posted by ChrisV (not verified)

I love these drives. I have a 90GB vertex 2 now but already need more space. The performance is incredible. Also - thanks for getting the word our and sponsoring PC Perspective.

Thank you much for the sponsorship OCZ, I love your SSDs, and before that your memory.

I like the new design but if you guys have the time there's some images with some "smudge" feeling.

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring this awesome giveaway on PC Perspective! I'm liking the new site design, although the colors are a bit too bright than I'm used to... Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...
