Tagged: vertex, ssd, ocz, giveaway, contest

As you can no doubt tell, PC Perspective got a HUGE and much needed facelift over the weekend to what we are internally calling "PC Perspective v4.0".  I know there are still some kinks to work out and we are actively addressing any feedback from our readers in this comment thread.

But we want to celebrate the launch of the new site in style!!  Some of our site sponsors have very generously offered up some prizes for us to give out throughout the coming days...

The first prize: a 120GB OCZ Technology Vertex 2 SSD!!

What do you have to do to win this wonderful piece of hardware?

Couldn't be easier: post a comment in this post thanking OCZ for its sponsorship of PC Perspective and maybe include a thought or two on the new site design (compliments, constructive criticism, hate filled monologues, whatever).  You should probably have a registered account or at least be sure you include your email address in the appropriate field so we can contact you!

We will pick a winner tomorrow and move on to the next hardware that finds its way to PC Perspective offices.  Good luck and thanks for reading!!

That is fantastic that OCZ is such a enthusiast oriented company to be sponsoring a lot of websites and events! According to another computer related website, OCZ also listens to the feedback of their customers and hardware reviewers - especially with the SSDs, and makes the right changes that seem to be consumer oriented!

As for PC Perspective's new site layout, I like that it now incorporates the color scheme of the website, but my one criticism thus far is that the Latest Topics column, and the Latest Forum tab seem to be redundant, since on all three major browsers, whenever I click on Latest Forums, it does not show any results. If they were intended to be the same, you can cut down on the "cluttered" look by putting Latest Topics into Latest Forums.

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PCper.com, it is a great site. The new front page is awesome, much easier to navigate, can't wait to see the new changes in the other area's of the site.

April 18, 2011 | 04:38 PM - Posted by ptrinh1979

Wow, I feel like a dummy on the last comment. I took a second glance in both columns and noticed that Latest Topics contains a summary of recent front page posts, as opposed to FORUM TOPICS. I have it in my head to associate Topics as Forum Topics. The lack of content loading under Latest Forums still seems to be valid on all three browsers - Firefox 4, Chrome 12, and IE 9.

I'm liking the new site. Just gotta fix the buggy login. Can't use same login as the forums? I couldn't even register a new login. Oh well.. growing pains, lol.

Props to OCZ. I always look forward to reading about their products and their benches cause excitement.

What a great giveaway. Thank you OCZ

I like the new design - Easy to find what you need.

Maybe the ligth green color should be changed into a more "soft" one.

April 18, 2011 | 05:22 PM - Posted by GroundLuminous

Thanks to OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective and putting that SSD up. I quite like the new site design here too. It seems like the first website redesign in a while to actually improve the site rather than change it for change's sake.

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective. This site is very informative. Glad to see the updated site design as it now looks much more current.

This website is really awesome!! And the prize(s)? Amazing!!! I think I just found a new favorite website! :)

April 18, 2011 | 05:37 PM - Posted by joshrules

Thanks a bunch OCZ! If I could afford an SSD I'd surely get an OCZ SSD. But the wife won't allow it.

Hadn't really noticed any change to the pcper.com website. Will have to investigate further after refilling my glass with another beer.

Big fam of OCZ so its great to see you supporting one of my favorite sites :)

April 18, 2011 | 05:43 PM - Posted by Tang! (not verified)

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring PCPER for all this time! We know you and love your stuff.. Hows abouts setting us ALL up? No doubt about it- you'd get a LOT of people talking ::grin::

As for the new site make-over - I still need to get used to it and see how well the navigation is - but I DO like the nice clear Captcha

April 18, 2011 | 05:43 PM - Posted by microking4u

I Win!! OCZ you are the bomb! Thanks for supporting PCPer! We love you!

Site looks much more professional! The scrolling front page is a little fast, but so far navigation looks good, keep up the great work!

Now I really need that drive Vertex 2 drive fast ASAP! ;-)

Computers are way to slow without Vertex 2 drives!

April 18, 2011 | 05:45 PM - Posted by Jango (not verified)

Thanks OCZ for your great sponsoring! You Vertex2 SSD is awesome. I read tons of good reviews about it and really would love to upgrade my Laptop with 100% awesomeness. Unfortunately SSDs in general are still quite expensive and hard to afford, but they are worth it!

April 18, 2011 | 05:45 PM - Posted by Tang! (not verified)

Thank you OCZ for being here and being a sponsor!

We will see how well this new webpage rolls - so far so good tho. Lets see how it navagates!

Thanks OCZ! Love your products! You guys are always in my systems somewhere (usually ram, haven't got the opportunity to try your SSDs yet!)

The new site looks great, took a bit to get used to the new look since I was so used to the old style, but now I like it alot!

Constructive criticism: My log in still doesn't work! Please make it work! Lol

April 18, 2011 | 05:51 PM - Posted by neliz (not verified)

Thanks OCZ! You're making PCPer a lot more of a pleasant experience just like you're making my PC experience at home a better one. keep up the good work!

the site redesign but looks good so far.

Yo, OCZ is the shizl for sponsorship of PC Perspective!!

April 18, 2011 | 06:03 PM - Posted by jnTracks (not verified)

thanks to OCZ for sponsoring a great show. i'm sure they see the returns on such great targeted advertising in new media.
and PC per isn't going to BS us so we know OCZ is a worth while company.

site has a cleaner look, nav at the top, leaves more room for content over clutter. very cool, everything still easy to find. latest news/forum on tabs now.... i'm trying to find something to complain about but i just can't!

great job!

April 18, 2011 | 06:05 PM - Posted by Freshie

Thanks ocz.

I like new site. You always have the problem with a new site on finding where every thing is but you all did a great job with the nav so their doesn't seem to be a problem there. I love how there seems to be less stuff it really help with looking through content on thus site. One thing I don't like is the homepage there is so much there it's hard to find what you should be looking at. Over all I like v4.

April 18, 2011 | 06:12 PM - Posted by ShadowLeaper

Thanks for sponsoring PC Perspective, OCZ.

I do like the new site -- the colors especially. I've read elsewhere that there will be a wider version, and I'm looking forward to that.

April 18, 2011 | 06:13 PM - Posted by Skramit (not verified)

PC Perspective is the premier site for all my PC and technology related news! The new site design looks fantastic, a nice upgrade on the previous style.

I particularly like the new section labels at the top, making it much easier to find what I'm after.

Without the generous sponsorship from the folks at OCZ, we wouldn't get such a great site to stop and read about the latest news and excitement in the PC world! So thank you OCZ!!

April 18, 2011 | 06:16 PM - Posted by Doug (not verified)

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring this great new website. Have you thought of sponsoring the Podcast too?

I just put the 120 gb Vertex 2 in a laptop and it rocks!

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PCPER! That SD would go great in my rebuild of my 4 year old system.

I like the site, decently clean layout. Though I don't know about that lime green/blue combo...

April 18, 2011 | 06:47 PM - Posted by Manuel (not verified)

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective. I'm enjoying the new design, little more modern feel, much needed when you think about a site all about the most modern PC tech :-).

April 18, 2011 | 06:58 PM - Posted by iamstarfox

OMG! OCZ SSD & PCPER FTW! Too many acronyms? :) Seriously though... Thanks going out to OCZ for donating a great SSD to be given away to celebrate the new PC Perspective web site. The new site has lots of content, yet still manages to look clean and organized.

April 18, 2011 | 07:02 PM - Posted by Slllade

Thanks, OCZ. I'll remember your sponsorship when considering which SSD to buy (assuming that I do not win the contest). I love the new site. One problem that I had was that I was not automatically redirected to reset my password after creating my account. Other than that, it has worked very well.

April 18, 2011 | 07:08 PM - Posted by somarilnos

Thank you OCZ for your sponsorship of PC Perspective. The well-reviewed Sandforce controller and assorted other information I found here was what encouraged me to buy my first OCZ SSD. The real performance I've seen is what will make me buy another.

Overall, I do enjoy the look of the new site. There are a few bugs that are apparent, for example, the most recent forum posts no longer showing, even when you select that tab from the main screen, as well as my account disappearing without a trace when the upgrade occurred. Otherwise, a big fan of the new look, and will always enjoy the content here.

OCZ Always steppin up! New site looks fantastic!

April 18, 2011 | 07:30 PM - Posted by Clairvoyantx

Thanks OCZ. New site has a clean look. Easy to navigate, once you get used to the changes. Like the ability to sort news by most recent/popular/commented. It might be nice to have a pause button on the scrolling headlines. Keep up the great work!

April 18, 2011 | 07:31 PM - Posted by Kevin P Robinson (not verified)

Thanks to OCZ...didn't know you were an official sponsor, just thought those were lucky ads on the pages. Also, your sponsorship works. Because of PCPer and their podcast and reviews, I've decided that my first foray into SSDs will be with a Vertex 2 (or 3, can't decide if I need THAT much speed) and this 120GB model is exactly what I am really close to buying.

To Ryan and everyone else at PCPer, I like the new site. It's nice to look at, not boring at all, easy to navigate, and looks new and fresh. Your old design was good, but was looking a bit dated. The info is still great and that is the reason I come back. Having the site just look nicer makes it easier to enjoy and view.

PS...OCZ, don't worry about this giveaway, if I do win, I'll still be buying one directly to support you for my second computer.

April 18, 2011 | 07:32 PM - Posted by posnea

Thank you OCZ for being so generous and keeping the most informative tech website funded. The snazzy upgrade looks terrific, like I needed another reason to check PcPer, great job guys keep up the good work.

April 18, 2011 | 07:40 PM - Posted by sprayingmango (not verified)

Thanks OCZ for the sponsor!!!! Love your SSDs, I have a RevoDrive X2 in my gaming system and a Vertex 2 in my iMac that I modded! I'd love one for my MBP.

The new site is very easy on the eyes and I really do like it. The only thing I find distracting is that sweeping 1/2/3/4/5 design over the main picture. I'd move it to the top or bottom if it were me. Otherwise, great work!!

April 18, 2011 | 07:44 PM - Posted by naycire (not verified)

Thanks OCZ, I have an Agility 2 and you guys have wonderful tech support. I must say the new layout will take some getting used to. The green kind of throws me off, but overall the design looks sharp.

April 18, 2011 | 07:47 PM - Posted by Jose gutierrez (not verified)

Thank you OCZ, for your support of PCPER. I have a Vertex 2 60GB on my Desktop and it was the biggest performance improvement I have done to my PC short of a complete CPU, MB upgrade.

My thanks to OCZ and companies like 'em that let me keep up with stuff at pcper.com and while listening to the podcast. The redesign is pretty good though the right hand column is extremely .. bare compared to everything else.

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective. Oh and I like the website's new design.

April 18, 2011 | 09:07 PM - Posted by Frank (not verified)

It's great to see companies at the forefront of consumer technologies like OCZ embrace the forefront of new media communications and sponsor sites like PC Perspective. Sponsorship like that helps sites like this do the new and updated 'revamp of V4.0' that looks fresh and clean.

Without business partners coming together like this we don't get awesome service like this... so thanks!

April 18, 2011 | 09:13 PM - Posted by Grunteh

Thanks OCZ! I own one of your power supplies, and I lost a SATA connector. I sent a request in and got a new one in almost no time! The only thing I don't like about it is that it's only 500W! Anyway, great products.

Website? Pretty awesome, but it needs to be integrated with the forums more. I have 2 accounts on PCPer now.

Thank you very much OCZ for supporting one of my favorite tech websites: PC Perspective!!! I also am pleased to say I love my 60GB Vertex 2 SSD drive!!!

April 18, 2011 | 09:48 PM - Posted by shakyone (not verified)

PLEASE DO NOT GIVEAWAY A VERTEX 2 120GB. THEY ARE JUNK!

I bought a vertex 2 based on your/Allan's review. Within 2 weeks it died, completely inert. I thought I was alone, but then I re-read the reviews on Newegg for it. It is a RAMPANT problem! My SSD is being sent back to me from Newegg, as they would not replace it without the UPC(sent for rebate).

OCZ said they have a newer firmware, but that does me no good, as it must be installed to the host (C:) drive, from within windows. Can't boot, can't update.

Please post something and alert people of this problem. I will try and e-mail y'all too.

I love the new look. Keep up the good work.

Do I need to re-register my nick? can't login.

Thanks OCZ. Can't wait to see what you do next. Good job surpassing Intel's offering in the 6Gb/sec space.

Ryan, I love the new design. Color scheme is unique and pleasing on the eyes. Just keep the green to a highlight color only. Keep up the good work.

OCZ rocks..I already am using their 6GB DDR3 1333MHZ GOLD memory kit for my X58 system and works well. Thanks OCZ and PC Perspective!! I like the new site but just have to get used to it and love the TABS on the top which makes it easy to find things like the ALL important HW leaderboard and SSD Decoder (both are my favorites) for this site. Keep up the good work!

PCPer - Your new website looks all cluttered, esp on my widescreen monitors!!!!!

April 19, 2011 | 01:14 AM - Posted by mrbluefin

New layout rocks, great color scheme. I'll have to dig around a bit before I can really give any kind of constructive criticism. I've been an OCZ supporter for some time now, first was ram, then a 60gig SSD, stuff just works! 120 gigs would be awesome!!

April 19, 2011 | 01:52 AM - Posted by loeakaodas

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PCPer, it's a great site. As for the new design it's certainly a breath of fresh air compared to the dated one that was in use previously, having the ability to have it adjust itself in relation to resolution would be great as it's just a little too constrained for a 24" monitor right now.

April 19, 2011 | 02:18 AM - Posted by J. Chang (not verified)

The new site looks great!!!

Thanks OCZ and pcper

April 19, 2011 | 02:23 AM - Posted by omegadoom13

Thank you OCZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've read so many good reviews about your SSD. I'm still trying save up money for a new build and will probably buy an OCZ SSD to go with it. Thanks PC Perspective for writing great reviews and keeping us informed of all the latest and greatest tech out there. We would be lost and confused without your guidance. I'm liking the new look and features. It is so packed with resources/links/info that it can be overwhelming at times. One thing at a time... i try to tell myself. oh well.. thanks for the chance of winning awesome gear fROM OCZ!!!

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective, you are truly the best enthusiast brand ever!
I love the new site with its changed layout and colors, but I still think the right side bar has too much banner ads. Still I think PCP fares better than most similar sites. Two thumbs up!

April 19, 2011 | 03:36 AM - Posted by Windrunner (not verified)

AKA Windrunner on the forums.

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring this wonderful community that has helped me grow as a computer geek over the years. When I entered PCper way back in 2005 I was a 15 year old computer guru, now I'm doing a lot of the technology and strategy and planning for a startup company that tests computer software licensing and copy protection.

The bulk of the blame is on PC perspective and the community for the tight knit, encouraging, funny atmosphere that made learning easy. This site has been integral in my growth as a geek, and I hope to see it around for many years to come!

This hard drive would be immensely useful to me, I need to get off of this refurbished Seagate 320 gig drive for my main OS, but regardless, PCper rocks and thanks OCZ for supporting it.

Also, thank you for your customer support with the OCZ Sabre, I know it was kind of a bum deal, but it is a sturdy keyboard even if the LED screen is flaky! Thank you for replacing mine! :)

When I click a link to an external site my current window goes to the site and I get a new tab that also goes to the site. I haven't tested this on other browsers to see if it's a site or browser issue. I'm using Chrome version 10.0.648.205

I love the colour scheme as well, but then again green is my favourite colour.....

The new site design really helps it stand out from the others. The old blue was a bit too bland.

when it was time to upgrade to an SSD OCZ was the first company to come to mind. I currently have a 60gb vertex 2 that is almost to capacity. Would be very awesome to win this.

There are also arm bands available specially designed to hold iPods and MP3 players during activity.

It's a well known fact that, in general, then it will be
fine. Begin by rope jumping for 5 minutes. You are able to correctly swing a
softball bat upwards, to obtain a picture which represents how they want to be in good shape, you will
see benefits. See yourself food shopping and grabbing fruits, vegetables, pulses etc.
You can double tap in order to stay as fat, weak,
unimpressive and unhealthy as possible.

PC Perspective is one of my daily tech-site stops. Thank you, OCZ for your support of them!

My $0.02 on the layout:
I'd move the login block somewhere else though, it's a bit jarring for the blank vertical space to be there. Perhaps it could be squeezed between the logo and search?

The gray space to the right of all the articles is too large for my taste, I'd shorten it up so I didn't have to scroll as much going through the articles.

All that being said, the new layout is much improved on the old.

Good on you OCZ.

About the new PCper.com site:
1. Under Podcasts, there’s only one podcast, number 150. You should atleast put 149 up there aswell because it has some great SSD discussion.
2. There are words double underlined in orange. When my curser floats over them a little echotopic add window pops up and I want to throwup. I hope you’re making some good bank of those echotopics.
3. You have a Review tab, and you have a Storage Tab. But there’s no way for me to see your most recent SSD reviews. If I click Reviews, then storage, it doesn’t show storage reviews, it just shows chronological storage articles.

Thanks OCZ for supporting PC Perspective. OCZ gets on my radar for SSD purchases because of this.

Website comment: Nice facelift. Not crazy about the green. why not stick to the original color? What's with the smaller font? What's with all the whitespace on the left and right? That's a lot of real estate that could be used for visitor monitors (1680x1050 )

Thank you OCZ for high quality SSD's--oh except for the bait and switch for the Vertex 2's and having basically 3 generations of the same device without changing model number or notifying consumers.

Thank you OCZ for sponsoring this contest. It's always nice to see companies that involve themselves with the community. As far as the site redesign goes, I love it. It was about time we got a nice redesign.

Thank you OCZ for helping to support this great site!

I really like the color scheme of the new layout and modernizing is great. I also really like the new logo.

I'm going to focus mainly on the issues I've seen with the top content on the main page. There are some placement issues that bother me. The clickable text on the front page (Latest Review, Latest Topics, Latest News) goes up and down over the page, making it hard to read and making me want to give up and not read anything. It would be better to have a centralized line (horizontal or vertical) of text fields that are easy to bounce your eyes around. I don't like the top 5 flash animation because it takes too long to see what's new. I don't recommend speeding it up, but having a preview column or row similar to GameSpot.com's style. Very handy to see a preview rather than just 1-5. Changing the content on mouseover is effective, too, instead of requiring a click. I also agree that the swoosh effect is distracting and a subtle fade would be very pleasing.

My overall suggestion would be to enlarge the top 5 animation to stretch it over to your box ad on the right. Then add a column in the left of the animation with some sort of preivew for each graphic/link and change it to make mouseover switch the graphics. I see the style of the "swoosh" that connects the animation box with your logo, but I still think these changes would be for the better. Then expand Latest Reviews to add another row since Latest Topics will now be pushed down below the newly expanded animation box. Then line up the words/labels Latest Review, Latest Topics, Latest News horizontally across the page. I think that would give the front a crisp, stylized and straight look that would really be settling to new eyes.

I'm glad to see the fresh energy in the design and I think you're doing a great job with all aspects of this site! Keep it up!

April 19, 2011 | 10:49 AM - Posted by TechKnow

Props to OCZ for the great hardware i've been using over the years, and for putting their name name behind a great source of tech info like PCper.

As for the site, I like the color scheme, but there doesn't seem to be any "flow". All the wasted space between "divs" gives off a broken/fragmented feel. The large gray expanses come off like dead air does on the radio. At least the content rocks. ;)

Nothing better than a good sponsor like OCZ putting up some nice hardware on pcper. Enjoying the new look, especially after getting my links back on the main page.

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective, I love their content and Allyn does great SSD reviews. You couldn't find a better place to advertise ;)

I also really like this new site. It's actually not the first time I see it, because you gave away a URL that was hosting your test site on your podcast quite some time ago. I'm happy it's finally finished.

April 19, 2011 | 11:59 AM - Posted by Zorkwiz (not verified)

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective, I've had nothing but good experiences with both OCZ products/staff and with the staff at PC Per! I love the new site design overall, even the color scheme, but feel that the animated top stories section looks a bit too much like an old Winamp skin; that is all form and little to no function. I'd almost prefer a more consistent look with the rest of the site and have it animate between tabs, changing the active story's tab to green like the rest of the interface and getting rid of any flashy, distracting animation.

Thanks OCZ for sponsoring PC Perspective. Your products are always top-notch, and your support of this site is appreciated.

The site design is ok I suppose, but I'm a fan of simple, clean designs with the important info front and center, and the old site did that well. Still, maybe the majority prefers otherwise (I'm probably in the minority there), and you guys know your needs best. I'll get used to it in time I'm sure!

Thank you OCZ and PCPer for making this possible. OCZ solid disks are really nice, i didn`t tried them yet but as much as i saw everywhere in review they exceeded my expectation in performance and reliability.
About the new design - it`s nice, elegant colours, smooth loading, easy to navigate - that`s the most important thing that everybody has a nice experience when using this website.
Keep up the good work and be sure to bring OCZ as a sponsor next time too!
