UPDATE: Contest is closed!  We'll announce a winner in the next couple of days!! Thanks to all who entered and to our sponsors for allowing us the chance to give away this kick-ass system!

UPDATE 2: Congratulations to user Cameron Berry as they are the winner of the PCAudioLabs sweepstakes sponsored by PC Perspective and Intel!!  Thanks to everyone that participated and be sure to stay tuned for more contests right here on pcper.com!

Our fans and readers have supported PC Perspective since its formation in 2004 and even before that back in the days of amdmb.com and athlonmb.com, and because of that support, we have been able to provide you with reviews and information on a continuous basis that we feel are the best in the industry.  And when we get the chance to give back to you, we jump at the chance and that is just what happened a couple weeks ago when our long time friends at Intel introduced us to the folks at PCAudioLabs for a sweepstakes of impressive proportions.

For the next two weeks we are giving our readers the chance to win a complete PCAudioLabs computer based on the Intel X79 platform and Sandy Bridge-E!!  If you aren't familiar with PCAudioLabs, here is a rundown of their mission from their website:

PCAudioLabs was formed early in 2000 by Thomas Bolton and Fred Rosenbloom. At the time, they were both working at Steinberg North America in the technical department and they noticed a great need for more educational tools for music production. With a video camera and a desire to inform, they started making in depth tutorial guides to some of the biggest software products in music production. The company was a huge success but it quickly became apparent that even if people knew how to use their software, it wouldn’t be of much help if the computer they were trying to use it on didn’t do its job.

PCAudioLabs built their first custom DAW for world renowned Engineer/Producer Mark Howard and within months they were the hottest system builders in the country. Besides the enormous list of pro users that have chosen PCAudioLabs, AMD, Intel and Microsoft have all turned to PCAudioLabs whenever they have audio needs.

In 2007, PCAudioLabs tripled in size, moving into a new location and increasing staff to meet demand. By NAMM 2008, PCAudioLabs was not only the supplier of PC’s for music software giants Steinberg and Cakewalk, but also hardware manufacturers such as Roland, Yamaha and Euphonix.

Although our task is technical, we know our staff needs to be able to relate to you and your situation. That’s why not only are the people who will build your system experts in computing, they are also musicians. In fact, any person you e-mail or speak to at PCAudioLabs makes music, so you’ll never have to worry about asking a musical question and getting a technical response – we speak your language.

Inside this brand-new generation of Rok Box you'll find an Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E processor along with a great Intel DX79TO motherboard.  Kingston has supplied 16GB of DDR3 memory to keep your audio creation rolling even with a ton of applications loaded up.  Storage is powered by a 240GB Intel 510 SSD as well as dual 1TB spinning drives for recording and sampling simultaneously.  ASUS has provided the GTX 560 Ti CUII TOP graphics card and the entire system is powered by an 850 watt Antec High Current Pro power supply.  In total, the system from PCAudioLabs will retail for right around $3,000!!

That isn't all though as PCAudioLabs has included full versions of software required for audio production including Cakewalk Sonar X1 Essential, Native Instruments Komplete Element's, IK Multimedia's Amplitube FREE and much more.  The software alone is valued at more than $600 bringing the total value here to over $3,600!  See the PCAudioLabs website for more details.

I am sure you are interested in the system itself so we have created a short video to go over the hardware as well as the software included in this bundle - check it out!

Without a doubt you are wondering what you have to do to win this system.  The steps are simple:

  1. Visit the PCAudioLabs Facebook page at http://facebook.com/pcaudiolabs, "Like" it and leave a comment on the wall if you want as well, thanking them for supporting PC Perspective and the audio creation community.  They are supporting PC Perspective by giving us this system and allowing US to support YOU with the giveaway, so get over here and support THEM!

  2. Leave a comment on this PC Perspective post below (registration is not required, though recommended) telling us and the PCAL crew what you plan to do with this system, how you'll utilize its power in your audio creation projects, etc.  What will the Rok Box improve or make easier for you?

  3. And if you want to follow us for more PC hardware news and upcoming contests you can do so at several locations.  http://twitter.com/pcper  http://facebook.com/pcper and http://gplus.to/pcper

That's it!  Our sweepstakes will run between today at end at 12:01am EST on March the 6th.  If you don't have your entry in by then, you are out of luck.  We will pick a random winner from the comments and ship the system out that week in March.  You are responsible for any taxes / tariffs but we'll cover the shipping to anywhere in the world.

A HUGE thanks goes out to our friends at PCAudioLabs and Intel for making this possible and we hope you all appreciate the work that goes into putting something like this on.  Also, thanks goes to Antec, ASUS and Kingston for their support as well.

Good luck to everyone and happy audio editing!!

Killer system!! Really hope I win, because (and I hope she's not reading this) my old beat up macbook computer just won't compute anymore, Ableton Live refuses to play live, and Steam won't even power a teapot. With this machine I'm sure I could finally hit sub bass so powerful and low it'll propel the studio to orbit and I'll be the first producer to conquer space travel and bring back with me tunes that are louder than loud and moon dust too.

Hey there, PC Perspective and PCAudioLabs! I am a freelance recording artist and sound engineer, and it would be G-R-E-A-T if I would win this box! For years, I've been basing my career off a three-year old Intel i3-based Dell laptop, and with the advancement of technology and the demand for better software and performance, it barely cuts my needs today. (Stereo mixdown alone for a 4-minute song takes almost an hour now: this is super inefficient and hampers my productivity.) If could win this Rok Box, I could totally take my career to a whole new level! I'd be able to use better software, process faster, and achieve more tasks than I would have ever thought possible. That, and all the other amazing stuff I'd be able to do with the monster power of this whole rig. Winning this box would play a huge pivotal role for my career, as I couldn't ever afford to purchase one for myself.

Thanks for all the awesome insights in the computing world, PC Perspective! And thanks for bringing such amazing machines to life, PC Audio Labs! You guys make this world a better place for people like me, who basically live and breathe music and computers.

Cheers!
-Francis

Really want to get into home audio mixing. This would be a great tool!

February 22, 2012 | 01:01 PM - Posted by ravenoid

If I were lucky enough to win this, I would use this for graphic design and music editing. I would also like to show the DJ community that not only is PC superior to Mac but that desktops are quite a viable choice. I DJ as a hobby mostly; so realistically, most of the work done on this computer will be schoolwork for some years.

February 22, 2012 | 01:33 PM - Posted by ChibiPanda (not verified)

This will be a great upgrade to my old rig!
A PC like this one would solve my lag issues in games and photoshop! I'd also be able to render videos without making that the only task my PC is doing! :D
I also plan to start playing with music editing programs.

February 22, 2012 | 01:51 PM - Posted by Brian Gonzales (not verified)

Never had a PC powerful enough to do real audio editing, this will fix that.

Thanks PC Per and PCAudioLabs for the chance to win an awesome system like this. What I would do with it? Get into some audio editing that my current PC is entirely unable to handle.

Good luck everyone. :)

This would be awesome for the audio/visual processing I'm doing at school, right now I'm specifically trying to come up with a way to dynamically filter out irregular microphone interference.

I've never been able to afford audio equipment, and my current PC is almost 10 years old. Honestly, I quit writing, and singing and such years ago when I got yoko ono'd out of the band I was in. If I won, I'd start again. I wouldn't need anyone else, and I could rediscover the love of making music I once had again.

February 22, 2012 | 05:46 PM - Posted by D McCollough (not verified)

Thanks PC Perspective and Pc Audio Labs for the giveaway! Would love to give that to my son who has a vision problem, but loves music

February 22, 2012 | 05:50 PM - Posted by DJ Zero One (not verified)

Here's what I would do if I won: I will start by unplugging my my ancient MusicXPC and hook up my Digi002 console, my MPC, my APC20, and at least 2 mics for percussion instruments to my awesome new computer and I WILL SERENADE THE STAFF OF PC AUDIO LABS with the most INSANEST, GLITCHIEST, UBER FRESH, BASS HEAVY ELECTRONIC MUSIC UNTIL THEY BEG ME TO TURN IT OFF, but because it will be so loud, I won't hear them and mis-read their lips and respond "TURN IT UP? WELL OK, HERE IT GOES" at which point madness will ensue and we will "tear da roof off" of whatever "mutha" we happened to be at. Word to big bird.

To be honest, I am getting into rendering larger files and running more complex VST instruments which severely bog my system down. I am seriously limited on processing power when using VST plugins during a mixing session in Pro Tools, and would love to be able to perform multiple tasks without the risk of failure. I have lost many a good takes this way, and I would be thrilled to have a nice new computer to work on. Thanks for the contest :)

February 22, 2012 | 06:14 PM - Posted by Lurpak

I think I would use this for my spare time projects, which is photo editing, video editing and gaming. And if I win this rig, then maybe music. I love to listen to music and have been thinking of learning to make music and play some instruments.

February 22, 2012 | 10:39 PM - Posted by Matthew Roche (not verified)

Well I am just currently putting together a small studio, just got a novation bass station, used to have a room and a half and then some full of air particle tearing goodness in the late 90's early 2000's untill stolen (when this legendary instrument was brand new and cutting f#$%ing edge) and of the first synths i ever played with, this along with the roland jp8000 (original thing with SUPERSAW oscillator waveform) to keep me entranced and completely BASSED OUT!!!, sure could used some flipped out hardware/software to compleate my project as I don't think my antiquated Macs can handle it. Thx pcaudiolabs for this chance !!

February 23, 2012 | 12:57 AM - Posted by TheBradyReport

First, thanks for putting up this kick butt system for the PCPer crowd! I have kids that are interested in music and I also play. I'd also use this system for pod/vid-casting and video/audio editing. (training materials and a video series this summer).

i'd just like to say the only way i'd swap from a mac to a pc is if i had a PCAL box like this. this would totally open up my world software wise and make integrating the pile of vintage synths and samplers that clutter my studio that much easier. if i had this box i'd be making a multitude of heads nod.

As someone who is trying their hardest to follow their dreams and continue to work on my career in music, seeing anyone support the audio creation community is something to behold. Thanks for doing this and although I don't have the best hardware, I'll continue to keep playing, singing, and producing.

Right now when I'm working on my very old DELL it takes way longer than it should when I'm done recording and needing to convert it into mp3 format. And then again when I'm attempting to upload it to try and get my stuff out there.

I also have been very into the Starcraft scene since the original and now that the scene is starting to really rise up I've always had thoughts of putting my own 'Strategy Tutorials' and just cast replays of the pro's. This of course would be impossible without a proper computer and audio set up. Right now I moderate for IGN's Pro League and have developed a friendship with the broadcasting team. If I could somehow gain a following through my casting I could see a small glimmer of a shot for me to cast for them. Paid or not I'm not interested in the money but for the growth and support of the community. Just like I moderate for them right now.

my email that I registered with PCperspective on was: Probasaur@gmail.com

This would be a huge help and big motivator in continuing to keep creating and trying to improve along the way. Either way thankyou lots for your support and I'll definitely check out what you have to offer now.

i will use this platform as a mean to learn more about overclocking and the underlying systems involved in making a stable overclocked environment. i may not be the most experienced overclocker but i know most of it and it would be great to have a new computer as my old one is getting tired of the more advanced games and applications today.

This PCAudioLabs Rok Box system would be a significant upgrade for my home studio and would take my multitracked-guitar-and-virtual-orchestra productions to a new level. Thanks to Ryan from PC Perspective's expert overview, it's clear that this system would be quieter and more powerful than my present system by a long shot. The snappy response of the Intel processor and the ASUS video card would keep the hardware blazing away in the background, where it belongs, so I can focus on being creative without noticing the little glitches and freezes which betray an underpowered DAW system. This modern system would allow me to explore creative mixing and effects processing: auxilary sends, parallel compression, sub-mixes, and processor demanding modulation. My current system grinds to a halt when I start to get really creative with my mix. This power of this Rok Box system would also leave me plenty of power to explore another important part of being a modern musician: online collaboration. Right now, I am writing and producing on my own. This is not by choice, but my current DAW is a bit slow and cannot handle multi-tasking programs very well. The Rok Box would change all that, opening up exciting possibilities for collaborating with other musicians, in real time, while still writing and producing in my DAW. Wow...It would be a blast to rock the Rok Box!

First up for me is re-ripping and encoding all my media. Then getting down and dirty with some projects that my Core-2-duo just can't handle anymore

Thank you PC Audio Labs for supporting PCPer.com, I love these guys. To win this PC would make me and my boys year. They are wanting to start a kids neighborhood band, very musically inclined group of boys. And when they are not using it I would put it to good use improving my hand/eye coordination ;)

Great system! I've been using Garage Band for sound creation and editing. Would love to try those software packages and have a system built for them. This would for sure improve the sound creation options... and who knows be the gateway into semi-professional music production.

Great show by the way... found it by the way of TWiCH. Keep up the good work.

I would finally record and edit training videos for different software solutions we're using at work. I would also record video game footage to share with friends and maybe make training videos for gaming too!

It's also mighty tempting to spend more time with the guitar and share my creative impulses.

I currently produce music and am using an old Anthlon XP 2500+ with 1 gig of ram for my Ableton tracks. I can't work live, even with a 1 second buffer and it really sucks :(

I have to render my projects, listen, change, render, etc and my workflow takes a big hit. Things that my peers are able to do in minutes I have to take hours to complete.

I'd use this machine to work in real time, cutting my project time down from weeks to hopefully days.

Thanks for the contest!

Nice rig, hope I can get it so I can finally replace my aging box and get something worth producing music on.

I am a PC guy, and I have just begun diving into the world of home recording. I currently use a Toshiba Satellite laptop, but even with 8 gigs of RAM, it's still not as fast as I would like it to be to handle my DAW, which is PreSonus Studio One. Not only that, I can't replace my mediocre AMD Athlon II P320 CPU. PCAudioLabs has an established reputation for being the best PCs for recording artists. In fact, one of my all-time favorite guitarists, Jeff Waters of Annihilator, swears by them. PCAL uses the best components possible to make PC audio production as smooth as it can be right out of the box. Having a PC that is built strictly with audio production in mind can only inspire me to do my best work as I hone my recording chops.

Thank you PC Perspective and PC Audio Labs!

This would be great to replace my AMD Athlon XP that has been overclocked from the amdmb.com and athlonmb.com days. It is kind of slow today, running at only 1964MHz with only DDR memory 9.5 X 206.7MHz. So this setup I have now would be to laggy with the effects on my Ibanez RG320.

ps
try to log on to your new web site, but i guess my email address was from a old IP provider. Plus it say, something like, bootmeup is a unknown user name.

Now this is the sort of computer that would get me right to work on the bones of the symphony project, as well as tinkering with my usual soundscapes and wild ideas. I need something that will crunch harder than what I've been using.

February 26, 2012 | 09:53 AM - Posted by bhusebye

From what I see this system is everything I would need to start rocking with .vst plugins. I would so totally use this to start recording my voice and my playing. I started with the machine I have with Mixcraft Pro Studio and Amplitube Jimi Hendrix and there is so much static on my system its unusable. I dont know where to start to try it do things better or to just scrap my pc and make a Windows 7 box. I have heard XP has cyclic static issues. Anyway Thanks for the great chance to even try to win this sweet and awesome system!

It'd be awesome to have that kind of audio production horsepower! I could do my own multitracking right in the jam room! Those look like specs for a more than competent gaming computer too, for when no one is looking. ;)

I would use this system (with the addition of some nice monitors and mics) to collaborate with my son in recording some of his and my original works. He's used Cakewalk before to record some stuff with his band, so he can teach me the ropes. Thanks for the contest!

February 26, 2012 | 12:10 PM - Posted by mattr1111

This would be great to make all of my training videos with.
I do an awful lot of training, and we are looking to branch out in to videos, this could certainly help with that.
Thanks

February 26, 2012 | 12:54 PM - Posted by pcperspectivefan

Wow, there are so many ways that I could use this system! I have a number of recording projects in the works for the 2 bands I'm in plus a solo project that would be vastly improved by a system of this quality. I also do a fair amount of audio engineering for others, but this system versus a shared laptop that I currently use - well, there's no comparison. Thanks for the opportunity!!

That thing is a monster!

For some time i've been looking for gear and stuff to start recording my ideas, but my laptop is way too slow. This computer would be a godsend! I've heard nothing but great things about all the components (especially RokBox!)

Cheers!

This looks like something that would be spectacular for me. My rig is unfortunately lacking in almost all areas, and I really need an upgrade. With this set up I could make some excellent tracks!

February 26, 2012 | 06:09 PM - Posted by Eric (not verified)

I would use the comp to start doing some recordings at home. All I have right now is a laptop, and it's just not powerful enough!

February 26, 2012 | 06:33 PM - Posted by Victor (not verified)

I plan on building a recording station out of the Rok Box. I will finally be able to record using a system that can handle large audio files, hardware, and properly capture songs.

February 26, 2012 | 06:43 PM - Posted by MrValve

I'd let my son use this. He plays digital piano and is going into high school next year. He's really creative and this would be a great tool for him.

February 26, 2012 | 08:24 PM - Posted by Steve (not verified)

It would help me master songs without having to buy all of the new stuff!

February 26, 2012 | 11:41 PM - Posted by Jimmy Arcade (not verified)

I currently have a minimal gear setup, with a Lexicon audio interface and Garage Band. I would love to expand my recording options with such a sweet setup as the Rok Box, from PC Audio Labs. I would use it to record my own songs, as well as those of my friends and music community!

February 26, 2012 | 11:46 PM - Posted by vringer

I'd be sooo happy to use this for my video editing! I am still using an AMD 64 so this would be an amaaazing upgrade. Thanks for this wonderful opportunity. :)

February 27, 2012 | 03:08 PM - Posted by Roelf Mik (not verified)

Greetings,

My name is Roelf Mik. I study Composition & Sounddesign for Adaptive Systems at the Utrecht School for Music & Technology in Hilversum, the Netherlands. As a student in a field that is constantly moving, having a system that is up to date is vital. My current computer is slowly beginning to fall apart and I lack the money to purchase a new system. If I win this contest I can finally stop worrying about my computer rejecting my audio interface while recording new material/working on new material, or my computer freezing when I'm copying too many samples at once, or the constant humming of the ventilator that prevents me from making clean recording at home... My computer and I were best friends once, but... Lately we've been having some serious arguments.

I need a new good computer to be able to efficiently work on new music and software. The system you are presenting here is 100% perfect. It would really, really help me out a lot.

I hope I win & thank you for reading!

Roelf Mik,
