You can go several different ways with today's top deal but the base 17.3" system is very acceptable with a Haswell Core i7-4700MQ @ 2.3GHz, 8GB DDR3, a 1TB Hard Drive and Blu-ray.   The base system has a 1600x900 display but this can be upgraded to a proper 1080p display with a 2GB GeForce GT 740M which raises the price to $830 and offers a more attractive deal for gamers.

Nice, but I need it to have windows 7, and this laptop only comes with windows 8, so another sale lost! No 8, or 8.1(With joke button to TIFKAM), for ME! I guess it is a Macbook Retinia PRO for me, as I have been placing $50.00 dollars in the jar, for every time, a windows based PC OEM tells me I can not get the laptop with 7, and when the money adds up to the cost of a macbook retinia pro, I'll buy the Pro! It's getting close, windows PC OEMs, better get some new windows 7 PC hardware in the pipeline!

Please.
You can install any of the multiple start button applications such as Start8 (for a crazy $5), automatically disable the start screen and use windows 8 just as if it was a faster windows 7.

Go bring your crap somewhere else.

You can put your start 8 where the sun don't shine, faster is not the issue! M$ is not getting an APP store on my laptop, M$ can do what it wants with its own branded hardware, but on my Third party OEM hardware, M$ METRO will not be! M$ does not own third party OEMs, and The DOJ antitrust division of the Federal Government is not doing its job by allowing M$ to Bully its way with third party OEM PC hardware ! Micro$oft needs to be forced to make the entire Metro subsystem and software assembiles an Optional user install on Third party PC hardware!

Apple Does not try to force its OS or closed ecosystem on any third party OEM PC hardware, so what gives M$ the right to do so!

I just ordered one the other day, and the answer is no.

Check it out on the HP website - you can customize the laptop.

I got the DV7-7000 and now the Envy 17-J000
HP is going cheaper and cheating the customer with the new technology my old DV7-7000 has better components than the new Envy 17-J000 why?
Because the new model has minus VGA port, same lagging wireless card Intel 2230 still with the integrated graphic card 4000 when now it is 5600 and the Nvidia GT 740M it is less powerful than the Nvidia 650M than my old DV7.
