The Inquirer has discovered the 3 main reasons that AMD bought ATI.  The reasons the AMD VP mentioned give credit to an earlier story, which mentions that AMD was looking at buying either nVidia or ATI in 2005.  The Core 2 Duo and significant price drops in processors have hurt AMD this year, lets hope that "Fusion" can wow people in 2008.

"WE HAD a chance to talk to a nice chap called Mario Rivas who happens to be an Executive Vice President, Computing Products

Group at AMD. We had a chance to ask him a few questions and one of my key ones was why the company acquired ATI."
