Today Crytek revealed the system requirements for its upcoming FPS Crysis 3 game. The third installment in the nanosuit-wearing sandbox shooter series looks poised to take full advantage of the latest PC hardware, which hopefully means a return to Cyrtek’s PC roots.

On the low end, users will need to be running at least Windows Vista and have a system with a dual core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a DirectX 11 graphics card with 1GB memory. From there, the game will scale to using at least a quad core processor, 8GB system RAM, and either a NVIDIA GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 graphics card for the high performance settings. There is no word on how (if?) the game will further be able to take advantage of multiple 7970/680 graphics cards in CrossFire/SLI to take the graphics to the extreme. Also, Crytek is not yet revealing details on graphical quality and what each of the specification tiers will get you in terms of graphics and framerate performance.

The full minimum, recommended, and high performance system requirements are listed below.

Crysis 3 PC System Requirements
  Minimum Recommended Hi-Performance
OS Windows Vista, 7, or 8 Windows Vista, 7, or 8 Windows Vista, 7, or 8
Graphics Card DirectX 11 GPU with 1GB memory DirectX 11 GPU with 1GB memory Latest DirectX 11 GPU
Processor Dual core Quad core Latest quad core
System memory 2GB (3GB on Vista) 4GB 8GB
Example Processors Intel E6600 or AMD Athlon64 X2 5200 Intel i3-530 or AMD Phenom II X2 565 Intel i7-2600K or AMD FX4150
Example Graphics Cards NVIDIA GTX 450 or AMD HD 5770 NVIDIA GTX 560 or AMD HD 5870 NVIDIA GTX 680 or AMD HD 7970

It is nice to see CryENGINE still being developed, and I look forward to it bringing my PC to its knees as it lies somewhere between the recommended and high performance requirements.

Are you excited for Crysis 3?

Can't wait, as long as I don't have to get some total game mod to make it look decent (had to do that with Crysis 2 -> not complaining though, after using the mod, the game looks matched the gameplay and story, awesome that is)...

I played the alpha. to use high settings 680/7970 is not enough if anything can be judged by it.

Yeah same, I was struggling getting steady 60FPS on high with a 680. They did say on the forums that it still needs a little optimisations on high/ultra settings

If find it kind of strange that the minimum graphics requirements is something like a hd 5770, the consoles
getting ports yet their hardware performance isn't near it. What at best half as fast? I'm guessing the consoles versions
are terribly scaled down

consoles allow for better optimization since all of the hardware is the same, the developers can get creative with how things are rendered, eg swapping the environment past a certain distance with a single rendered frame, and other optimizations which could not be done on a PC due to the difference in hardware will cause those optimizations to create visual issues.

eg if you were to get a gameshark for an N64 (they don't quite make them for modern consoles) then pretty much do a speed hack, you will see that the visual optimizations will break down when you get close to the scene replacement area and suddenly the perspective of the world looks very wrong.

(PS this breakdown happens with tessellation in DX11 games if you use a trainer and speed hack your character (PS never use a trainer in multiplayer, it wont work and it is likely to get your account banned)

If you speed through a DX 11 environment you will see many objects become oversimplified (worst than a game that does not use it.

Many render related optimizations targeted at reducing the amount of real time rendering the GPU has to do rely heavily on the speed of the system and how fast you move through the environment. With most PC games, that type of dynamic scene replacement cant really work, and the older implementation of scene replacement in PC games have looked horrible (eg gothic 3 ) where everything outside of a predefined cell was a static render that did not dynamically adjust to your position.
The console is also not dealing with a such a memory and CPU hungry OS

or maybe the people at crytek have a condescending attitude to hardware, so they boast about 2x the performance of crysis 2...

The requirements look ok for a high end game, 3 years after the launch of DX11. On a slightly more ironic note, could the lack of Dx9 mean that this Crysis isn't a console port? Maybe without error-laden tesselation implementation to overcompensate? Can't wait to see what a state of the art DX11 game looks like.

I may have to add another GTX 680 or go back to GTX 570 SLI provided it scales and the minimum FPS is okay.

yeah just about finished fc3 bloody awesome game love it but my old q6600 coed to 3hz and gtx470 soc with 6 gig ram and ssd for the os only gives me 40 - 50 fps. starting to give me a headache. me thinks it time to upgrade.

Given the GTX 670 outperforms the 7970 most of the time, why re they saying GTX 680 is comparable to the 7970? This is an outrage !

December 4, 2012 | 04:06 AM - Posted by Anonymous (not verified)

who tell you this with the latest drivers the 7970 ghz is comparable to 680 and the standard 7970 is comparale to 670

Somehow I think those requirements are understated for each category. Crysis doesn't play games when it comes to games.

Nope. Never even finished Crysis 2. Back when it was launched, they had such miserable optimizations (especially on ATI) that I just sort of was turned off by it and never touched it again (the lighting was all screwed up, for example). I'm sure they eventually fixed it, but what I played of it was dull and generic. Should I change my mind, I'm sure my 3770K and dual 4GB 670 will run it just fine at 1920x1200 or higher.

Should they really support people
still holding on to their dual cores?
Isn't it time ?

YEA definatly!
I dont know if any of you heard that thing about intels future CPUs (after Haswell).
-
Well i rade it more then once that after Haswell Cpus, intel is going to weld the CPUS to the Mobo!
that means no more users Builds!
if you want a high end computer, yull have to pay ToP Top TOP DOLLAR!
you wont get a choise for your kind of mobo with some kind of CPU!
we would have to eat only what they give us (but if you have money you might get a chance to get a custome build pc)
