Odd, turns out I found two brand new AMD A10-6800K Richland APUs sitting on my desk this morning.  I called AMD to ask what this was all about and they said that if I didn't need them, I might as well give them away to our readers.

"Oh, and throw in a free copy of the new SimCity while you're at it," they told me.

Who am I to argue?

So let's have a giveaway!

We are handing out two AMD A10-6800K "Richland" APUs for you to build a brand new PC around and including a key for SimCity with each of them.  If you haven't read Josh's review of the A10-6800K APU you should definitely do so; it will help educate you on exactly what you are getting - for FREE.

To enter, I need you to leave a comment on this very news post below telling us what you would build with a brand new A10 APU - you don't have to be registered to do so but we'd sure like it if you were.  (Make sure you leave your correct email address so I can get in touch with you if you win.)  Also, feel free to stop by the PC Perspective YouTube channel and either give our videos a gander or subscribe.  I think we put out some great content there and we'd like more of you to see it.

I will pick one winner on June 17th and another on June 24th so you have two separate weeks to potentially win!

A big thanks goes out to AMD for supplying the APUs and copies of SimCity for this giveaway.  Good luck!!

I had been a long time AMD fan, yet as of late Ive been a bit cynical about their recent releases. The Richland looks promising and Im not too hyped on the Haswell, so honestly if I had a Richland I would rebuild my CPU to work with it and compare it to my older i-5 3570k.

Hi PcPer, Great timing! I'm actually gathering parts for a new AMD APU build, so far I have a Cooler Mster HAF XB case, the Asrock Extreme6 FM2 motherboard, an OCZ 120GB Vertex 3 SSD and a Corsair H100. Planning on adding a Corsair CX 600M PSU, a Seagate 1TB SSHD, XFX HD 6670 video card, whatever ODD i can find for under $20.00 and of course the AMD A10-6800K APU I hope to win in the next couple weeks from PcPer.com. Love your Wednesday live streams, I log in the chat using my PcPer registered name above.

If I win I'll make sure to send you a video of the completed build.

Wish me luck all!

I have built numerous PCs based on AMD's CPUs before, but I have yet to experience AMD's APUs at their finest. I have extra PC hardwares here lying around so a CPU might fill in the gaps on what I should build next.

An AMD APU is just great piece of the puzzle.

I would upgrade my brother's PC with the new AMD APU. He is still using an old dual core AMD Phenom 2 X2 560 from 2010 with an AMD 5870. So I guess I would need to upgrade his graphics card also, or he can use the included graphics in the APU.

I'm personally waiting for the AMD Kaveri APU to upgrade my current Llano based system.

I STILL am on an AthlonXP system with 7600GS AGP graphics.

Just building a regular desktop PC with this thing will run rings around my current setup! I'd finally be able to play Left 4 Dead 2 or Team Fortress 2 at more than 15 frames per second. :)

June 10, 2013 | 11:45 AM - Posted by Nebulis01

June 10, 2013 | 11:52 AM - Posted by Neon

I need to replace my daily work system (not work work, but work done while at home), which is an aging dual core Athlon64 X2 4800+ with 3GB DDR and Vista32. Although it's not for games, it gets a workout every day with varied tasks: a lot of office and internet, some a/v, watching videos, etc.

So I want to build a uATX with water cooling, so it's smaller and cooler. Got to go 64-bits with the OS, so it can have more system RAM - not sure how much yet. Also want to go for my first SSD. A system like that should be able to produce great compilation videos such as, "Best of PC Perspective Podcast Bloopers: part 1", for example.

By the way I'm from Chile, and if that complicates something just ignore me.

I have always loved the value AMD provides. This would pair up nicely with a 6670 for shared computer I am needing to build. All my kids game in one way or another, not to mention school projects and this would really be the sweet spot for such a build. The power efficiency is something that also looks to be very attractive here. Thanks for the review guys.

June 10, 2013 | 11:52 AM - Posted by SPBHM

Should be great for media and general usage, so an HTPC.

I am in the process of a custom-built HTPC case, and have not bought the guts yet. I just have a nice wooden case which will be a home theater show-piece! I'd love to build the guts around this APU! Fingers crossed. Plus, it's my birthday on the 23rd. (wink wink).

June 10, 2013 | 11:56 AM - Posted by lance striker (not verified)

If i win i'm gonna build a budget gaming machine since building high end will cost you a lot of money this is a best alternative way for building a casual gaming machine not powerful as dedicated video cards but this is more than enough for a casual gamer doing my daily works etc. . . .

June 10, 2013 | 11:57 AM - Posted by timmyisme22

If I won this APU, I'd build a starter desktop for my brother-in-law. I need to get him off of his old laptop (old dual-core AMD CPU)that can barely handle CS 1.6 at 1024x600 with low-medium graphics settings... it's really sad.

Suffice to say, he needs a PC. Stat.

June 10, 2013 | 11:59 AM - Posted by AllenB76

It just so happens that my 14 year old just purchased a case and power supply to start an intro gaming pc. He is going to start with the older and less capable A4-3400 APU and FM1 motherboard that we already have and add a Radeon HD6450 graphics card to get started. The new A10 APU would be a much better place to start.

I'm in desperate need of a new HTPC. My current HTPC is about 11 years old and is running on its last legs. It can barely do anything above 720p. With a new AMD processor, I could put my Wii emulator on there and continue using it as a MythTV frontend box. It would also be powerful enough I could run a virtual box with Windows XP so I could actually watch Netflix! Everything goes to 1080p!

SimCity would go to my main Gaming PC, which is already and AMD CPU!

June 10, 2013 | 12:01 PM - Posted by Bacon (not verified)

I would build a new (gaming) rig to replace my current one, which is an AMD Athlon 64 based system. I am on a quite low budget, so I am trying to keep the costs low by trying to win some components. I already a new case and some new peripherals ready to use with my new system, so what's left are actually the internal components. :)

June 10, 2013 | 12:01 PM - Posted by Kim23

Big fan of AMD and PCperspective!!

June 10, 2013 | 12:04 PM - Posted by leviathan1137

I would use the A10-6800K to build up my rig to play my abundant collection of Win9x/WinXP games on the bare metal rather than try to play out of a virtual machine...

I would be able to save a good deal of money on a sorely-needed new build. My friends and I pretty much got into PC gaming because of Company of Heroes and now that Company of Heroes 2 is almost upon us (and my PC is finally feeling the heat of obsolescence), it would be grand to receive AMD's latest offering.

June 10, 2013 | 12:16 PM - Posted by bitmorph3r

put together a decent workstation so i can finish my disertation. can't use matlab and chrome at the same time because the cpu gets hot and shuts down the pc . help!!!

June 10, 2013 | 12:19 PM - Posted by klatch

Wouldn't say no to it. But I'm sure it would end up costing me more money than I'd save with the parts I'd buy to build around it, but I still wouldn't say no. I'd either build a HTPC or make this my home server and use my current computer (e350) for the HTPC.

June 10, 2013 | 12:18 PM - Posted by LegoGuy (not verified)

I would like to put my name in for consideration of this contest. If I had an A10-6800K, I would upgrade the APU I have in my bedroom PC. It's an FM2 system already, but it just isn't quite fast enough to let me enjoy some of the games I love such as Diablo 3.

June 10, 2013 | 01:02 PM - Posted by YTech

I am not very familiar with AMD APU and have nothing against AMD as I am still running an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (2004) :)

In brief, I'm overdue for a new desktop multi-production machine.

My build is aimed for either an Ivy or Haswell with an nVidia GPU, however if I am the lucky winner, I will convert it into an AMD machine (AMD+ATI).

It's primary strength will be gaming, then 3D development, and off-time my HTPC. :)

Thanks for the great news PCPER and AMD!

And happy father's day to all the dad's out there! :) (and also a birthday for me!)

June 10, 2013 | 01:00 PM - Posted by Daniel T (not verified)

I would build a perfect AMD platform for my wife. She has to work a lot in the same time with me and she keeps my Intel busy just when i need to work or play. I would fit 8GB of Ram on it and it should be enough for her needs.

June 10, 2013 | 01:04 PM - Posted by Odd1

Wow! I just built a system based on the a10-5800k and have spent the better part of the month overclocking, tweaking and putting it through its paces. These APUs are awesome! If I were to win a 6800k, I'd pass the 5800k system down to my 15 year old son, see what he could do with it & spend the next month playing with the 6800k!

My current APU (http://matrix.wikia.com/wiki/Armored_Personnel_Unit) is dead in the water. I need a new APU to power my... APU... thats what i'd use it for.

I would love to build a new machine for my class. I teach a hardware technology class for Junior and Seniors in high school. We rely on local company donations and don't have any current technology, let alone new tech!!

I'd slap this into an...
ASUS F2A85-M PRO FM2 AMD A85X (matx)

top it off with my...
Xigmatek Aegir SD128264 (tower cooler)

with a set of...
AMD Radeon RG2133 Gamer Series Ram (I'd only use 2 on this build and upgrade my 3870k with the other pair, it's only running a set of 1600 Mushkins, sadly I don't think it can run all 4 @ 2133 on the 6800K).

And see how far I could push an OC

I have an old dell ultra sharp 1600x1200 (that I run @ 1280x1024 for games) which would scream with that bad boy :)

I'd build a HTPC to win the next round of the console war!

June 10, 2013 | 01:24 PM - Posted by DashTrash

I have already built an htpc around an A10-5800k and am much happier with it than the i5 chip it replaces. Its watercooled, and I'd like to take advantage of the 6800k's better overclocking potential! Thanks AMD and PCPER!

I currently have a Llano system and this would be a great upgrade for me. And since Richland is VLIW4, my 6670 will still crossfire with this chip. Also, I have been looking at purchasing the new sim city. Have always been a fan of sim city. This would be a perfect upgrade for my computer. If I could win one of these giveaways, this one would be best for me. Thanks for the opportunity PCPer and keep up the great work.

I'd build a small comp for my neice who doesn't have a computer.

I could really use it to build a new PC to replace my decade old PC (AMD Sempron 2600+ with Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4200). Then I can dust off some games that the old PC could not handle.

i d upgrade my htpc and give my old one to my nephew ... gl to all ;-)

I would send it to Josh, for him to tape it to his bald head. At least he would have something on his head! :)

I still run a few CPU-driven rendering programs waiting for them to move to gpu-compute. It would be nice to offload test renders to a quiet-yet-capable system that an APU would be great for.

I'd update one of the kids PCs. Then the other kid would whine and whine.

My core 2 died last week. Pulled a 10 year (or more) old AMD 2500 out of the closet. Still runs great. but I could sure use an update!

I would build a nice HTPC for the basement... and also have this PC run a media server for my network... and also possibly make it work for the World Community Grid.... Cheers from Canada :)

I'd use it to build a HTPC/steam box for the living room.

I'd get an ITX case like the coolermaster elite 120 advanced and MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 motherboard, grab a decent PSU, some RAM, a HDD and hook it up to the 40 inch TV through HDMI.

Maybe eventually add in the GPU in my current gaming PC once I replace it.

I think this AMD Richland will be nice if it given to my older brother. He is trying to make new music company, make television ads and other things that need his composed music. We will trying to make $300 total computer, i mean with the display too.

Well, if this A10-6800K will be mine. Please send it to Yogyakarta, Indonesia. I'm never have experienced in trans-continent delivering. Thank you for your attention Ryan :D

I would build a system for my mom with this. It would be the perfect cpu since she doesnt need a discrete gpu for what she does. Plus that old Athlon x2 I give from my old pc is beyond showing its age. Would be awesome to win PCPER! ;) Heck might even be able to get her an SSD since dont have to spend the money on a CPU! Be like being on Overhaulin but for PC's!

I'd build a new HTPC to replace my existing 4 year old setup.

Definitely replace my wife's computer, Athlon 64 X2 5000+, 4Gb, Geforce 6800. She only surfs and does light gaming, but still, man is it slow. She deserves a new one. Please help.

The A8 made for a decent gaming/HTPC unit so these wont be bad until that 200+ W octacore FX drops.

June 10, 2013 | 02:51 PM - Posted by hoxlund

I would build a HTPC unrivaled by any of the big box makers... ie... popcorn hour, western digital, patriot

June 10, 2013 | 02:51 PM - Posted by Mars_999

I would build it for someone else in need of a new computer, friend or relative so they can get a new computer and not run WinXP anymore. Some people can't afford to upgrade often... This would help them save some money and help reduce the cost for me to build them one... if I need to help pay for the other components.

Thanks!

Would need some high frequency ram
1080p monitor
Upgrade to a nice keyboard maybe

It'd be sweet.

I would build a new HTPC as the one we have now is a 1st gen. MacBook with a busted battery and shoddy AC-charger. The machine can't play HD webstreams and once its charger is taken out it dies. This isn't really ideal. Moreover, the magsafe-adapter doesn't light up. Battery is bulging so much that it kinda disturbs the mousepad button.

I think it is time for a new HTPC.

Use it to help a friend build a gaming/media center pc
