Time to start getting ready for the holidays

If you haven't read my NVIDIA PureVideo article yet, it will probably interest you if you find video image quality important at all. The new driver (publically available soon) will actually enable that video processor that exists in all the 6-series graphics cards from NVIDIA, with the exception of the WMV9 hardware decode that is still broken on the NV40 and NV45 chips.
I was interesting for me to delve into the world of high defintion DVD and all the different standards that are fighting for dominance. Though I was able to find two DVDs at Best Buy that had support for WMV9 technology, they are still only playable on the PC with supported hardware as there are CE hardware devices for it yet. The visual quality was astounding to see on the CRT monitors, and I'd imagine even more so on a true 1080i television and DVD player.
After spending the last few days on the PureVideo article, I am now getting ready to prepare for the Christmas holiday -- yeah, a bit late. I've got to do some last minute shopping for the girlfriend as well as family. I still have to make arrangements as to where I am going to be over the next week or so for the holidays as well -- my family, her family, blah blah. Its one big hassle most of the time as there are only so many hours in a day and we need to be every where at the same time...
I am also getting ready for CES this year, once again in Vegas, at the 6th-9th of January. Its going to be pretty big this year, and I am actually just as excited about looking the consumer electronics as I am the computer components. I am becoming more and more of an audiophile and videophile as IQ on my TV increases. One of my preps for that trip is a new notebook, the Sony S260. It is about half the weight of my previous eMachines M6805, includes a 1.7 GHz Pentium M and 512 MB DDR memory. It has done everything I need so far, and I am going to put it through its paces on the show floor.
That's all from me for today, if I don't post again before Chirstmas, I want to wish you all a happy holiday, no matter how you celebrate it.
