Put the final touch on your Win8 machine

If you are going to use Windows 8 as your OS you will find it is a better overall experience to use if you have a touchscreen.  With mobile devices that is not a problem but for the most part desktop systems do not tend to sport a touchscreen.  Enter the Philips 231C5 SmoothTouch a 23" IPS 1080p display with a built in webcam and microphone as well as multi-touch capability of course.  The array of inputs are sufficient, two HDMI ports – one with MHL capabilities, DisplayPort, VGA, two USB 3.0 ports and stereo audio. Before you dismiss this display completely you should check out eTechnix full review.

"When Microsoft announced the imminent launch of Windows 8, one of the revolutionary aspects of the new operating system was its more streamlined integration into touch screen devices. Since that time we have seen touch screen capable notebooks and Ultrabooks swarm the market and the era of the touch screen computer has changed the way that many of us have interacted with our systems."

More high resolution greese slab/Boob Tube, better go down to Sams Club and get the Oil Drumb size of Windex! Maybe a simulated Pull and Say toy App for the kids, The Monkeyboy Says Developers, Developers, Developers! Marge! there's Boogers on the screen again! Yes IPS behind a layer of finger grime!

I believe that mister Anonymous was trying to convey a thought process of Homer Simpson ...

Wrong generation of Simpson, Older! Dagnabbit, you bebop-en, finger snappen, twocent! Can't see the HD IPS, for the layers of digit greese and puppy slober! I'll stick with lucky 7, and not be behind the crappy 8 ball! You can all go en fondle your slimy cell phone tinkertoy UI, and catch the screen scabies, or whatever jungle rot!

Ha Ha, M$ PC slabers, so ButtHurt about the failure of that crappy phone interface in front of and hiding the desktop, monkeyboy is that you there defending the worst of the ME/BOB/VISTA rotten EGGS that M$ has ever laid! No 30% off of the top on that crazy closed crApp ecossystem, and Steam OS is Just around the bend, to free us from any more M$ foolishness! And still people choose to pay More for XP paid support and not be stuck with that 8, that god afwul 8, and its greasy kid stuff! 7's going to live longer than XP, just you wait and see! M$'s still polishing that 8 turd and telling everyone to ignore the stench, but the nose don't lie, nor does the eye! And where are the Developers, Developers, Developers, it would be so much appreciated if that TIFKAM code base was just deprecated!

you don't even have your facts straight..that is if you have any facts..or anything else straight.

ballmer had nothing to do with windows 8..that was steven, he was the mini jobs that pushed this out...and yea they fired his ass.

you sure are angry at something that has nothing to do with you...install linux on ever computing device you own..problem solved, but no you get off on blabbering about bullshit. I'm not defending anything...except your phucking bullshit.

ha ha ha...zzzzzzzZzzZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

You are not even replying to the post in question! No one likes a monopoly, and M$ is trying to push this TIFKAM crap onto third party hardware, M$ get out of the way and just supply an OS to the third party hardware makers, without Your closed Ecosystem TIFKAM crApp store run time pasted onto the the front end of the OS. This is the same browser market type tactics that got you into trouble with the justice department in the past, times 10! M$ do what you will with devices that you directly build or brand, but even Apple does not force their closed ecosystem on PC/laptop hardware that it does not directly brand or make! Monkeyboy is still on the board of directors, and Nadella is just a wooden boy, with the strings pulled by Ballmer and Gates! Steam OS and other OSs are going to gradually put an end to the M$ Trust, and other big players are using Linux based OSs on their mobile devices, and yes the Android OS is just a consumption OS also, along with 8, but still it is nice to see M$ taken down a peg, competition is good! Its 7 and Linux for me, Linux even on tablets, Nvidia are you listening, no full Linux devices based on the K1, and no sale! If Apple would just make a Tablet that runs OSX, that will bring more competition into the graphics tablet market, and I do hope that some OEMs will make a graphics tablet built around Nvidia's K1, and some of AMD's x86 based SKUs, but without windows 8, Linux can run just fine on a tablet, without having to be compressed like that 8 hog!

Is this type of screen the future of the office environment? People swiping at their screens like they are in the movie 'Minority Report'? I was thinking of getting one of these, but didn't want to be the first a-hole swiping at his screen during the day with delusions of being better than everyone else.

BTW Love the weekly video/podcasts. Keep it up! Almost to 300! I just put together a $550ish build, thanks for the good ideas on the recent videos (though decided to try the new kaveri sans video card...so far, its working great. Playing Bioshock Infinite after work on ii!)

Yes that's just what enterprises need a 10,000% increase in their repetitive motion injury claims, to go along with their billions in retraining for TIFKAM costs, and the Borking of the WSUS, by another 8 update.

ah Jedikoth- i hope it is not the screen of the future office- my arm would not make it through an hour of reaching and arm swiping.

no one could ever sit- yeah i know what current ergo people are saying - but think of standing for 8-10 hours a day swiping the screen over and over.

so my left shoulder rotator cuff injury gets aggravated, my back has issues from standing all the time and my legs start to cramp-

ah life at the office- just like being back on the assembly line again
