If you buy a newer notebook, it is worth considering all the options that are on it, and making sure you get to use them. Not just the 3 various LAN ports and so on, but hyperthreading and dual channel memory might be available on the motherboard, but as in this article from 3D Velocity, without 2 DIMMs, you are letting it go to waste.
"As I pondered my final decision, one of the factors I took into consideration was memory, and it
dawned on me that several of the notebooks I'd looked at were guilty of having their memory
implemented by means of just a single module. Not much of a crime you'd think, but all these
notebooks featured Intel chipsets that supported dual channel memory."
