Get a stereo view of nVIDIA's new Fermi based GF100 card that was demonstrated at CES 2010. A system with three of these cards was shown off with the running of a rocket sled. Mostly a physics demo, but partially a game, the rocket sled demo shows off how physics cards can allow the interaction of an engine as it tears its self to pieces due to extreme G-forces. Legit Reviews has a close up of the monitor or you can always check out Ryan interviewing the demonstrator with the video in the background.
"Legit Reviews got a chance to look at test system that had not one, but three GF100 Fermi graphics
cards running in triple SLI demo. The demo is being narrated by NVIDIA and it is worth a look! .
NVIDIA also announced that GF100 was in volume production, so it looks like Fermi will still be out in
Q1 2010."

Another Consumer Electronics Show has come to a close and as always we learned about many new technologies and products that will keep us busy in 2010. We saw more than our fair share of Intel H55 and H57-based motherboards from a variety of vendors and saw more industry support for USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s in the way of USB 3.0 PCIe cards, third-party onboard controllers, and an explosion of SATA 6GB/s SSDs. I'm sure these two interfaces will definitely have an impact throughout the first quarter as well as the rest of the year.
We also got a glimpse of the future through some conceptual products from ASUS called their Wave Face series, which included a wearable smart phone, lightweight personal tablet, and a home information and entertainment display that might replace home LCDs someday. Allyn also got a kick out of Intel's Light Peak prototype board that used fiber and made a highspeed data interface from it. The Pepcom Digital Experience event also showcased a few fancy products like Blu-Ray 3D and a neat transparent AMOLED notebook display that caught the eye of more than a few press members. As we walked around the CES exhibition halls, there were several booths that caught our eye like ASUS, NVidia, and AMD to name a few.
We also saw several X58-based boards get a refresh with added support for USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s as well as many new overclocking features for enthusiasts and even hardcore overclockers to help them fine tune their graphics cards and processors. Overall, it was an exciting (and exhausting) week for the PC Perspective team, but we do it happily to provide our readers with the latest technology and innovations because we know that's what you come to our site every day. We hope you all have had a great 2010 so far and we'll continue to provide you with the best hardware news and reviews in the industry. Here's a rundown of all our coverage from this year's Consumer Electronics Show:
CES 2010: ASUS unveils new ROG motherboards, graphics cards

More than 100 companies showcased their latest products and innovations at Pepcom's Digital Experience press event. Hundreds of media members got to preview new products from companies like BlackBerry, Canon, Energizer, Epson, Garmin, Google, HP, Intel, Kodak, Lenovo, Lexmark, LG Electronics, Microsoft, and ViewSonic. We hand picked a few products that were pretty innovative and interesting at the same time.
One of the most visually stimulating things we saw at the event, other than the safari girls, was a 14.1" Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) notebook display at the OLED Association booth. This display had a transparent background that was very interesting and the actual icons on the screen were bright, sharp, and colorful.
Intel had an array of budget netbooks running off their N450 Atom processors from companies like Acer, Toshiba and HP. the N450 offers characteristics such as low power consumption, low heat generation, and ultra-economical power usage.
IOGear had a modest-sized booth that included this small two port USB 3.0 PCI-E card that we thought was newsworthy enough to post here. This card supports data transfer rates up to 5Gb/s and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices. This was one of the first USB 3.0 cards we saw at CES and I'm sure it won't be the last. It's good to see vendors adopt this technology early and replace the legacy USB 2.0 interface.
Kingston showed off a variety of products from their HyperX line of system and laptop memory. Kingston introduced dual and triple-channel DDR3 1600 kits in the 16GB and 24GB flavors for hardcore enthusiasts to use in their insanely-expensive and blazing fast PCs. The 16GB kit will cost around $1,065 while the 24GB kit will be available at $1,598. Pretty steep, but well worth it to max our your LGA 1156 or LGA 1366 rig's memory.
Another sweet product we previewed at the event was a Samsung BD-C6900 3D Blu-ray player. This slim player has a transparent cover and includes support for Internet TV with Samsung apps. It also includes mult-channel, high definition surround sound and meets Energy Star 4.0 guidelines.
Lastly, Buffalo Technology wowed me a bit with this iPhone dock slash portable hard drive that is properly named the Dualie. The Dualie is a combined storage solution and docking station for the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod. This product allows consumers to sync and charge their iPhone or iPod while providing simultaneous access to the included 500 GB portable hard drive for backup or storage of digital assets. The 500GB version of this product goes for $249.99. There were hundreds of other products shown to media, and Allyn will showcase what he saw in the way of system storage innovations in a future news post so stay tuned!

We've spent the last few days running all over Vegas gathering up gobs of pics and data to turn around, but earlier today this caught our eye. We'd seen plenty of press pics of what Light Peak is supposed to look like, such as this one:
This pic looks cool and all, but we hadn't seen any of the actual connectors in practice, and it seemed impractical for end users to be futzing with the connector seen above. Today we met with Intel to talk SSD (more to follow on that) and some other tech. They had a sweet looking exhibit set up at the show: In one of the demo rooms, while being briefed by Intel, I spotted this little gem: Some of those extra wires are added after the fact, as it's obviously a prototype board, but those thinner lines are not wires, they are fiber! Keep in mind this is not necessarily 'final' hardware and is subject to change, but this looks like a realistic possibility for a Light Peak connector. USB-ish physical form factor with power and some signaling being supplied from the usual places (though the pins are not aligned the same). Now for the good stuff: The fiber terminates at the end of each plug. This would mate with a corresponding 'end' section of a device or cable connector. Two fiber channels are necessary as each is unidirectional. There's much more to follow for our CES 2010 coverage, so stay tuned!

With CES 2010 just a few sleeps away, the buzz surrounding this year's show is reaching a feverish pitch. With a dry week of news behind them, bloggers and reporters alike are lapping up the sweet nectar of pre-show hype.
I think many in the industry are looking to CES as a forecast for the next few years - like Ground Hog Day for the tech industry. Brightside of News - Palm Pre 3 is expected to appear at CES with a press announcement on January 7th, 11am .
Brighthand.com - Synaptics to change the way we interact with Smart Phones? It has touch sensors all over its body so you can touch and caress it. Make sure to use a screen protector when using someone else's phone. Absolute Gadget - 802.11n digital picture frames are coming our way. I never bought into the whole digital picture frame idea and most of my friends have theirs unplugged. Find me a frame that is solar powered and WiFi, and you'll have me interested. Examiner - HP's new products leaked before CES 2010 - whoops! Nothing too earth-shattering, but the new 14" HP Pavilion dv4i may be interesting. CNet Asia summarizes what it perceives as the home theater trends we'll see at this year's CES. HDMI 1.4 is expected to be everywhere and vendors making it like the Holy Grail for device connectivity. Microsoft - Steve Ballmer will also be talking about the latest developments in Project Natal. You can bet there will be long lines at CES to try this.

A New Trend Towards Energy-saving PCs – MSI Will be Showcasing its Wind Top AP1920 All-in-One PC and Wind Box DE220 and Wind Box DC500 Mini PCs, which all feature the new Intel AtomTM processor, at CES
Taipei (Dec. 22, 2009) – World-leading All-in-One PC brand MSI will be showcasing several new models that embody the global trend towards energy-saving PC design at the CES 2010 exhibition. The new models, which feature the Pine Trail technology platform with the new Intel AtomTM processor, include the Wind Top AP1920 All-in-One PC and the Wind Box DE220 and Wind Box DC500 Mini PCs. These products deliver low energy consumption with no compromise in performance; their average power consumption is more than 80% lower than that of a standard desktop PC. The compact, lightweight design also takes up less space than a traditional PC.
Low Energy Consumption and High Performance with Intel’s New Pine Trail Platform Intel recently announced the launch of its new Pine Trail technology platform, using the new-generation AtomTM (Pineview) processor. This processor features enhanced Northbridge chip performance, and integrates the graphics processing unit (GPU) and memory controller into the CPU, while the Intel NM10 Express chipset (TigerPoint) continues to handle other functions. With Northbridge chip functionality integrated into the CPU, the Pineview platform requires only two chips as opposed to the traditional three-chip solution, making for lower energy consumption and enhanced performance. In terms of technology, what distinguishes the Pine Trail platform from its predecessors is the fact that it offers a combination of both enhanced performance and a reduction in energy consumption of over 50%. At the same time, the change from three chips to two has made it possible to reduce the size of the chipset by around 70%. Intel’s Pine Trail platform solutions include the Pine Trail-D for desktop PCs and the Pine Trail-M for laptops. MSI’s All-in-One PC and Mini PC products use the Pine Trail-D platform. While the emphasis in the Pine Trail-M platform is on achieving longer battery run-time, the Pine Trail-D platform provides superior overall performance. Two versions are available: the D410 single-core processor and the D510 dual-core processor. While ensuring reduced energy consumption, they also provide the high performance that people expect from a desktop PC. The Wind Top and Wind Box Series Combine Slim, Lightweight Design with Outstanding Performance MSI will be showcasing its Wind Top AP1920 All-in-One PC at this year’s CES. The Wind Top AP1920 is the world’s slimmest netbook, with a width of just 35 mm. With a 16:9 18.5-inch display, the AP1920 provides a 14% increase in the exaggeration ratio. The AP1920 uses Intel’s new Pine Trail-D platform, with the AtomTM D510/D410 processor. This provides outstanding performance equivalent to that of a conventional desktop, while ensuring low energy consumption and low noise. The AP1920 can be wall-mounted, and the viewing angle can be adjusted between –5 and 15 to permit optimal viewing. With its elegant, fashionable exterior design, the MSI Wind Top AP1920 will add an extra touch of refinement to any home. MSI will also have its Wind Box DE220 and Wind Box DC500 Mini PCs on show at CES 2010. The Wind Box DE220 is a 2L mini PC; the Wind Box DC500 is a 4.7L model. Both use Intel’s new Pine Trail-D platform, based around the AtomTM D510/D410 processor, which provides a combination of high performance and low power consumption. The Wind Box DE220 is small and lightweight (about the size of a sheet of A4 paper), and can be wall-mounted behind a display, effectively converting a conventional PC into an all-in-one model. The DC500 is a highly original device. Designed to stand upright on a desk, it is approximately 60% smaller than a conventional 15L desktop PC, making it the ideal choice for people who want to be able to save energy and save space. For detailed product specifications, check out the MSI booth at CES, or visit the MSI website: www.msi.com/index.php

As the more astute of you know, PC Perspective is going to be a part of Quakecon this year. Judging case mod contests is just a part of it, as is figuring a way to rig the contest so that one of our members can drive home in the new Shelby GT. There will also be a both with tons of t-shirts and prizes to be won. Enough prizes that Ryan has had to resort to extreme measures to get them all there.

MESQUITE, TX - July 22, 2009 - Ventrilo, the premier group voice communications program used in tournaments and multiplayer games, is ready to blow the doors off of QuakeCon 2009 with the sponsorship of its second annual "QuakeCon Ultimate Power Up" Sweepstakes. One extremely lucky attendee will rocket away from QuakeCon 2009 in a brand new supercharged 2010 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 Coupe, valued at approximately $52,000. The 14th annual QuakeCon will be held at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas from August 13 - 16 2009 and is open to the public and free to all attendees. "One look under the hood of this 2010 Shelby and you'll start strategizing on how to get your hands on this powerhouse street machine," said Brian Knapp, president, Flagship Industries. "Ford and Shelby are both iconic American names that represent a long history of street legal horsepower, and it's a thrill to be giving one away to the lucky winner of the Ventrilo Ultimate Power Up competition. As always it's an honor to be working with our friends at id Software and giving back to the gaming community." "This is the most powerful production Mustang ever made and thanks to Ventrilo, someone from QuakeCon will walk away with the keys to this beast of a machine," said Todd Hollenshead, president, id Software. "QuakeCon 2009 will be a can't miss event for LAN fiends, game fans or id Software devotees; and Ventrilo giving away this bad ass muscle car is an example of why everyone needs to make sure that they have August 13 to 16 on their calendar for the world's best video game party." The 2010 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500 Coupe to be given away will be Kona blue and comes with a six speed transmission mated to a supercharged 5.4 liter V-8 pumping out a brutal 540 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of pavement destroying torque. The car will be on display throughout QuakeCon in the main exhibition area. A total of 100 tickets for the Shelby Mustang GT500 drawing will be awarded to QuakeCon attendees for everything from performance in the QuakeCon Pro, Open and Quick Draw Tournaments, to participation in other QuakeCon contests, events and random drawings. The winner will be randomly selected at 9 p.m. (Central Standard Time) on Saturday, August 15, as part of the tournament finals event on the QuakeCon Main Stage.

The Tech Report have been posting Computex updates like mad and still are having a hard time keeping up due to the huge volume of information from this years expo. Lynnfield processors and the P55 boards they will run on were showing next to nVIDIA's Tegra processor and Ion platform. Various PSU makers were showing off their 80+ lineups, including this very impressive beast. There were some interesting new tricks with notebooks and the motherboard makers were showing off too.
There is a lot more to see there but don't tire your eyes out as Ryan has a newly minted article on his travels at Computex as well. "We have even more Computex news and photo galleries from the latter part of the show. Join us for the latest official and unofficial news about Intel's next quad-core processors, Tegra and Ion systems from Nvidia, ultra- efficient power supplies from Seasonic and Enermax, next-gen netbook touchpads, AMD processor core unlocking from Gigabyte, and much more." The four PC gaming stars of E3 in Futurelooks opinon are a pair of sequels and a pair of new games. The sequels are to Modern Warfare and Bioshock, both games were very well received by fans of their respective genres, Bioshock more for the story and interesting use of Plasmids, CoD: Modern Warfare for its more realistic take on combat. The two new games are very different, one covers the exploits of a famous Navy SEAL; the other is a designed as a multiplayer crime spree, with up to 1500 people per server.
"Although E3 2009 was all about console games for the Microsoft Xbox 360, SONY Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii, there were a few select titles for the hardcore PC gamers out there. Here are four select titles that should make PC Gamers very happy once they hit the shelves. They include Bioshock 2, CrimeCraft, Rogue Warrior and Modern Warfare 2." DigiTimes saw a lot of vendors as they toured Computex this year, but the main thing they noticed was the focus on portability. Most of the first part of their look at this trade show is taken up
by mobility products along with some interesting entertainment devices from MSI. The second part features the huge V10 cooler from CoolerMaster and even more mobility products. The digital picture frame with built in scanner is definitely worth a second look.
"With ultra-thin notebooks and netbooks taking up most of the spotlight at Computex Taipei 2009, several Taiwan IT players have added innovations to their products to show their unique R&D abilities, while some IT players are showcasing their latest ideas on how consumer electronics "make life more simple".

At first glance, more news about tessellation in games raises very little interest; we have been hearing that it is just around the corner for almost a decade now. A second look reveals that not only are they right this time, but AMD has the fully DX11 compliant 40nm silicon to prove it. Sure the current generation of GPUs from AMD can do tessellation in benchmarks, but no games support the technology. With DX11 we will finally see the arrival of tessellation as well as some other interesting improvements. You can find pictures and slides of the presentation as well as Ryan's thoughts on the matter here.
"AMD certainly has set a aggressive pace, and so far we have not seen any information from NVIDIA that they have a working DX11 part in house (all rumors point to them NOT having any working silicon at this time). If TSMC can fix its 40nm issues, and AMD can ramp these parts in a timely manner, then it is not unreasonable to expect actual product to be available for the October launch of Windows 7." "C is for CUDA, that's good enough for thee!"
nVIDIA's chief has decided that the CPU isn't entirely useless, as he had some praise to offer Intel. Apparently the Atom processor impressed him as he proclaimed that both "a CPU and GPU co-processing architecture" are necessary. As The Inquirer points out, it is a little strange that he neglected to talk about Ion. There are success stories he could have told, even if the North American market has not seen them. There were also some glasses, which Ryan hated more than the Inq did. "NVIDIA AND INTEL may have been at loggerheads for a while, but Jen-Hsun seemed eager to diffuse some of the hostile atmosphere that has soured the air between the two, declaring that PCs really needed both "a CPU and GPU co- processing architecture," whilst also praising Intel's little Atom brat as a "wonderful achievement." The graphics firm spent 90 minutes showing a pre-Computex gathering already-seen demos, talking Cuda, failing to mention much about Ion (despite 20 design "wins") and giving us all a laugh with some god-awful paper 3D glasses."
