A lot of news coming from the NVIDIA camp today, including some price drops and price announcements.
First up, the high-powered GeForce GTX 780 is getting dropped from $649 to $499, a $150 savings that will bring the GTX 780 into line with the competition of AMD's new Radeon R9 290X launched last week.
Next, the GeForce GTX 770 2GB is going to drop from $399 to $329 to help it compete more closely with the R9 280X.
Even you weren't excited about the R9 290X, you have to be excited by competition.
In a surprising turn of events, NVIDIA is now the company with the great bundle deal with GPUs as well! Starting today you'll be able to get a free copy of Batman: Arkham Origins, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag with the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, GTX 780 and GTX 770. If you step down to the GTX 760 or 660 you'll lose out on the Batman title.
SHIELD discounts are available as well: $100 off you buy the upper tier GPUs and $50 off if you but the lower tier.
UPDATE: NVIDIA just released a new version of GeForce Experience that enabled ShadowPlay, the ability to use Kepler GPUs to record game play in the background with almost no CPU/system ovehead. You can see Scott's initial impressions of the software right here; it seems like its going to be a pretty awesome feature.
Need more news? The yet-to-be-released GeForce GTX 780 Ti is also getting a price – $699 based on the email we just received. And it will be available starting November 7th!!
With all of this news, how does it change our stance on the graphics market? Quite a bit in fact. The huge price drop on the GTX 780, coupled with the 3-game bundle means that NVIDIA is likely offering the better hardware/software combo for gamers this fall. Yes, the R9 290X is likely still a step faster, but now you can get the GTX 780, three great games and spend $50 less.
The GTX 770 is now poised to make a case for itself against the R9 280X as well with its $70 drop. The R9 280X / HD 7970 GHz Edition was definitely a better option with its $100 price delta but with only $30 separating the two competing cards, and the three free games, again the advantage will likely fall to NVIDIA.
Finally, the price point of the GTX 780 Ti is interesting – if NVIDIA is smart they are pricing it based on comparable performance to the R9 290X from AMD. If that is the case, then we can guess the GTX 780 Ti will be a bit faster than the Hawaii card, while likely being quieter and using less power too. Oh, and again, the three game bundle.
NVIDIA did NOT announce a GTX TITAN price drop which might surprise some people. I think the answer as to why will be addressed with the launch of the GTX 780 Ti next month but from what I was hearing over the last couple of weeks NVIDIA can't make the cards fast enough to satisfy demand so reducing margin there just didn't make sense.
NVIDIA has taken a surprisingly aggressive stance here in the discrete GPU market. The need to address and silence critics that think the GeForce brand is being damaged by the AMD console wins is obviously potent inside the company. The good news for us though, and the gaming community as a whole, is that just means better products and better value for graphics card purchases this holiday.
NVIDIA says these price drops will be live by tomorrow. Enjoy!

Ryan or anyone with lots of
Ryan or anyone with lots of experience I have a question to ask. I currently have an msi gtx 670. I am a greasy bastard who wants all the FPS. With this new price drop (and pack in games I want) I am considering a second 670 or a gtx 780. I can sell my 670 to my old man for 200 bucks to offset the 780 or buy another 670. Either way I am in about 350 bucks (assuming prices come down as stated). I game at 1080p and am considering getting either a 1440p screen or a 144hz 1080p screen. I have never used sli and paranoid about stutter/tearing and various other issues. Heat and power are not a contributing factor, or even noise really as I use headphones. Any suggestions? Thanks
It’s nice to see such large
It’s nice to see such large price drops, particularly from Nvidia, but the prices still seem a bit too high. The 280x and 770 are neck and neck, yet the 770 is $30 more. As for the 780, I could understand sacrificing some performance for $50 savings and a slightly better cooler, but the 290x is solidly faster, and once cards with custom coolers are available, the performance gap will grow and the noise advantage will disappear, making the 780 terribly priced once again.
Price isn’t everything. Any
Price isn’t everything. Any given card could be the hottest deal in town and it won’t mean squat if there is no product to buy.
AMD basically had to push
AMD basically had to push their chips to thermal limits to compete with the 780. If you allow the 780 higher thermal limits like lets say 90c, it will outperform 290x easily.
Ryan, why are you not showing OC 290x vs OC 780?
Allow the 780 to run at 95c like the 290x and see the performance
Most enthusiasts don’t run their cards at stock. The reviews should have apples for apples section where OCing comes into play.
Can’t wait for Nov. 7, SLI GTX 780ti come to me 🙂
GK110/780 Thermal limit is
GK110/780 Thermal limit is 85C
Non-reference cards already reach 80C
That still wont help in a Clock vs Clock comparison
Kingpin had to clock a Titan to 1802mhz while a R9 290X just had to be clocked to 1466mhz to achive similar Graphic scores.
Wait a second here.
Is there
Wait a second here.
Is there a confirmed price drop for 4GB 770? Only 2 gig model gets the drop?
You’d be an idiot to get the 2 gig version considering what’s coming in a year or two.
GTX 780 SLI for $998? Yes,
GTX 780 SLI for $998? Yes, please!
If you sell the game codes on
If you sell the game codes on ebay for $25-30 each you could save at least $150
Ummm, pretty sure it’s only 3
Ummm, pretty sure it’s only 3 games so using your max price of $30 per game and this crazy thing I learned called MATH, that’s $90 old chap.
But free games are free games, no complaints here.
Cheers!

Well I guess you never
Well I guess you never learned a thing called READING? The post being replied to was for SLI 780s, as in 2 cards, so the max you could get is 2x$90 ($180), which was then rounded down to $150 to get a reasonable amount that you’d be able to get.
So Ryan,
760 2gb SLI or one
So Ryan,
760 2gb SLI or one 780 3gig?
Supposedly dual 760s meets or beats Titan
Is nobody upset that Nvidia
Is nobody upset that Nvidia just dropped through the floor on their prices? Everyone is talking about how awesome it is. They just ripped all of their supporters heads off for months for no reason other than greed. I have ALWAYS been an Nvidia fan so don’t get me mixed up here. I’m no AMD fanboy. I just feel humiliated for supporting a company that made it blatantly obvious that they are chasing the cash. If AMD did not release the r9 290x do you think Nvidia would have lowered anything? They created the $1k ceiling with the Titan and they would have been happy to hold it. All of the sudden the competition releases a serious card for $550 and miraculously the gtx780 goes from $750 to $499 within a day??!! Not to mention Nvidia decides to release pricing on the gtx780ti (early reports say it rivals/ beats Titan) at $699. How can they continue to do that and nobody cares? They obviously think that their customer base are complete idiots and they are turning out to be right. Do not worry everyone, Nvidia is releasing the gtx780ti soon and, because it’s a fraction more powerful than the $550 r9 290x or the $499 gtx780, it will be $200 more because they want to squeeze every dollor out of your pockets for supporting them. Because they created the $1k pricetag for the Titan, $699 seems like a steal right? Even when the comparable cards are hundreds cheaper? And guess what, plenty of us are going to buy it knowing that they could care less about you as a consumer and loyal customer. The only company that came ahead here is AMD for showcasing a flagship card at $550 when they could have easily charged $699 when the gtx780 was still $750. That’s worthy of an applause- A company that actually wants to reward it’s fans and humble the competition. We all know Nvidia wouldn’t have done it. Instead we cheer Nvidia for dropping their prices $250 on the gtx780. Shame on me for actually deciding to shell out $499 for the gtx680 lightning. Now a faster gtx770 lightning is out for…$359. All within 8 months!! What company does that and stays in business? I hope gamers and fans alike start standing up for their hard earned money and stop paying ridiculous starting prices for the newest model. It’s downright humiliating to the consumer who supports the product and brand name. Never again.
First of all, the Titan was
First of all, the Titan was never a “gaming” card, it was always meant to be a “semi-professional” card, which is why it has lots of double precision floating point performance, whereas the 780 does not. Which is why the titan’s price has not changed, but everything else has.
As for the “What company does that and stays in business?”…
Pretty much every company? This is what competition is for. The reason why you don’t see many price swings in most companies is that they have plenty of competition. NVidia has only one real competitor, thats AMD, so when their competition releases a competing product at a lower price point, they lower their own prices, this is how business works. It’s silly to get upset at a business for doing what a business is meant to do, make profits. If anything you should be upset at AMD for taking so long to catch up… and release a competitive product.
Also, you can bet your ass that AMD would do the exact same thing if they had the opportunity.
Titan is a gaming card.
It’s
Titan is a gaming card.
It’s a GeForce and last time Nvidia check its line-up. GeForce is their gaming line.
The name itself gives it away
Nvidia Geforce GTX Titan
http://www.geforce.com/hardware
right above titan link it says
“GeForce GTX
The ultimate GPU for gamers. Delivers fastest performance and all the latest gaming technologies.”
common sense people
GTX Titan has 1500 GFLOPS
GTX Titan has 1500 GFLOPS double precision. Yeah, gaming card. Sure.

As the article says, the
As the article says, the GTX780 was $650 and now it’s (will be) $500. It wasn’t $750. So now it’s $150 less, not $250. At $500, even in it’s reference state, it’s a better card to have then a reference R9 290X. It is for me. And it is for others.
We don’t buy a certain video card in order to support a certain manufacturer. Supporting someone means doing something for them without expecting something in return. That’s not a smart way to shop. We buy video cards following certain criteria. It can be performance, price, power consumption, noise level, driver maturity, extra features, desirability.
People buy Titans because they want a Titan. Not being able to afford a Titan does not make the card a bad one, it’s still a good card, still the best card in my opinion, it’s just a really expensive, really desirable one.
Titan is a gaming card. But the thing is Titan is more then a gaming card. It’s also a compute card, with unrestricted DP performance. It’s a gaming card with 6GB of RAM. It’s a compute card with 6GB of RAM. If you’re a professional, Titan is a steal of a card at $1000. If they would price Titan lower then $1000 it would be suicidal for nVidia’s workstation business since the DP performance of the GK110 is not restricted in Titan’s case.
This is the market for Titan. Entry level professionals that would sometimes game. Yes, they do exist and for them $1000 is a great price.
If you just wanted a card just for gaming with the Titan’s performance (in games), the GTX780 was the card to get. A custom OC version will beat the Titan in some games.
Titan was there to make the GTX780 look like a good deal at $650. Now that the GTX780 is going to be $500, Titan will make GTX780Ti look good at $700.
Only that at this price for the 780Ti (higher then $650), it becomes more obvious to me that the Titan will be discontinued soon. It has served it’s purpose and it has served it well. The 780Ti will destroy Titan in games. In my mind there’s no doubt about that.
Price drops are normal. Business as usual. nVidia does it, AMD does it, Intel does it, everyone does it. No reason to get upset over it. If you made the right choice to begin with, the price of the card at the time of purchase is the right price for the right card. If you’re overly upset about a price drop, then you’ve made the wrong decision.
Yes the Titan can and is used
Yes the Titan can and is used for gaming, that wasn’t really my point, and NVidia can choose to market it however they want. What I’m saying is that it never really made sense as a gaming-only card, the price to performance ratio was really bad right from the beginning, even more so once the 780 came out. At the $1k price point, the 690 is almost always the better choice, or just dual 4GB cards. The Titan has full double precision floating point performance, which makes it great for semi-professional work, applications where Quadro type cards are normally used, and its a total steal at that $1k price point for that type of work.
Hey Ryan do you think when
Hey Ryan do you think when 7000 series are gone AMD will switch there bundles to R7 and R9
“GTX780 is a better card,
“GTX780 is a better card, less heat, less noise” is a chant from Nv fans…just read around some.
cool thing is the price drops happened because Nv knows that the 290X is a better card and no other reason.
TTL is a walking joke.
Any one see any prices
Any one see any prices drop?
Ryan, can you start to reviewing the sound performance of graphics cards? I am using the HDMI to my receiver for 7.1 sound. Its way better than spending so much on sound cards and headphones.
Nice…It posted every time
