Introduction and Features
In addition to excellent performance, the HCP-850 comes with all modular cables and is 80Plus Platinum certified..
Antec has one of the largest selections of PC power supplies on the market today and their new High Current Pro Platinum series includes three models: the HCP-850 Platinum, HCP-1000 Platinum and the HCP-1300 Platinum. The High Current Pro Platinum series is part of a second wave of new power supplies from Antec that replaces three older lines, the TruePower Quattro, High Current Pro (80 Plus Gold), and Antec’s Signature series. The High Current Pro Platinum series will be the new top class of maximum efficiency and performance within Antec’s range of power supplies with modular cabling.
The High Current Pro Platinum series is based on a design, co-developed with Antec’s partner Delta Electronics and combines several technological advancements and features to provide top performance and be the very best power supply possible. All three High Current Pro Platinum power supplies are 80Plus Platinum certified, come with all modular cables, and have been tested and certified by both NVIDIA for SLI and AMD for Crossfire systems. The High Current Pro Platinum PSUs also feature Antec’s new OC Link technology that allows two HCP Platinum PSUs to work in tandem to power even the most demanding systems.
Here is what Antec has to say about their new High Current Pro Platinum PSUs:
“Antec's High Current Pro Platinum series is the pinnacle of power supplies. High Current Pro Platinum is fully modular with a revolutionary 20+8-pin MBU socket for the needs of tomorrow. By using a PSU that is 80 PLUS® PLATINUM & ErP Lot 6: 2013 certified, operating up to 94% efficient, you can reduce your electricity bill by up to 25% when compared to many other power supplies. HCP Platinum's innovative 16-pin sockets create a new level of flexibility by doubling the modular connectivity, supporting two different 8-pins connectors and even future connectors of 10, 12, 14 or 16-pins. Backed by a 7 year warranty and lifetime global 24/7 support, the High Current Pro Platinum series embodies everything a power supply can accomplish today.”

PSU Testing Methodology
Establishing an accurate load is critical to testing and evaluating a PC power supply. PCPerspective’s power supply test bench can place a precise DC load on the PSU under test. Each power supply is tested under controlled, real-world conditions up to its maximum rated load (at 40ºC), using both 115 VAC and 240 VAC line voltage. Our current suite of tests includes:
• DC Load Regulation
• AC Ripple and Noise
• Efficiency
• Differential Temperature
• Noise
The Antec High Current Pro 850W Platinum power supply was evaluated on both features and performance. A full range of equipment was used to test the power supply under controlled load conditions.
• (2) CSI3710A Programmable DC load (+3.3V and +5V outputs)
• (4) CSI3711A Programmable DC load (+12V1, +12V2, +12V3, and +12V4)
• (2) 200W Precision resistor load bank (+12V5 and +12V6)
• Switchable precision resistor load bank (-12V and +5VSB)
• Agilent 34401A digital multimeter (Accuracy ±0.0035% vDC)
• Extech 380803 Power Analyzer (Accuracy ±0.5% of full scale)
• DS1M12 "StingRay" digital oscilloscope (20M S/s with 12 Bit ADC)
• Powerstat Variable Autotransformer, 1.4 KVA, 0-140 VAC
• Extech Model 407738 digital sound level meter (Accuracy ±1.5 dB)
Modular causes more
Modular causes more resistance…I look for a PSU with as few interconnects as possible.
Which does not make
Which does not make appreciable difference and top of the line modular PSUs can achieve as little as 0,5% deviation on main rails between idle and full load.
Also non-modular is too impractical above certain power level, with too many cables to hide.
Why doesn`t the US switch
Why doesn`t the US switch over to 240V ?
It is more efficient.
I’m guesing costs of adapting
I’m guesing costs of adapting infrastructure will be pretty enormous.
It is (was?) the biggest
It is (was?) the biggest market for consumer electronics and appliances designed for 120 V since 1945. About half the current homes were built before 1970 and were not designed for the higher voltages (look up knob and tube wiring on wikipedia). Those all have to be upgraded along with the electrical grid and connections to the homes. Then you need some sort of 99.9% foolproof way for the current wave of people starting to suffer from Old-heimers to plug in all of the devices they have owned for 60 years.
I have 240 in the garage…I
I have 240 in the garage…I guess I meant to say on newer houses they could have a 240 option in the bedroom/living room…we could run more high-powered video cards easier !
240v standard in man-caves.
Is 240v a lot more dangerous ? I know the amps you can pull is at least double.
Why did Europe get to go 240 and not us ? Excepting most US garages. Welding/washers/dryers.
I got my answer…answer.com
I got my answer…answer.com LOL
The US system theoretically could be made as good or better than the European system with no infrastructure change, except appliances and consumer structures themselves (collectively costing home owners billions). US houses get 240 volts at the panel. If wall outlets all were fed with 240V you’d have the lower current and higher power advantage of the European system and it would be safer too, since each “hot” would still be only 120V from ground (not 240V) which keeps the reduced shock hazard advantage. Of course it is still possible to touch the two hots.
(So in a way our system allows for more flexibility)
Weve got 240v over here its
Weve got 240v over here its fucking sweet if america was to switch to 240v from 120v i think the costs would be extreme plus all your electrical appliances would need to be replaced or you could use a coverter best of just getting solar or a beefy generator that supplies 240v 15amps
